How do I link Arabic learning with love for the noble Quran?

Parenting Perspective

Make Arabic Feel Alive and Meaningful

Connecting your child’s Arabic learning with a love for the noble Quran is one of the most beautiful gifts you can offer them. For many families, the challenge is to make Arabic feel alive and meaningful, not just another subject to memorise. Start with small, clear steps. Teach your child short Quranic words or simple verses that they hear often in Salah, or everyday phrases like ‘Bismillah’ and ‘Alhamdulillah’. Use these words during your daily routines so they feel natural and warm.

Show your love for reciting the noble Quran by reading it aloud and letting your child hear its comforting sound. Praise their efforts to repeat words, even if their pronunciation is not yet perfect. You can also add simple Quran stories that explain the meanings behind the verses. When a child understands that Arabic connects them to the words of Allah Almighty, it becomes more than just a language; it becomes a blessing that links their heart to their faith.

Spiritual Insight

The Language of Revelation

Arabic is honoured in Islam as the language of the final revelation, the noble Quran, which has guided millions with its words of truth and mercy. Allah Almighty reminds us of this honour in the noble Quran at Surah Yusuf (12), Verse 2:

‘Indeed, We (Allah Almighty) have revealed the (noble) Quran in the Arabic language so as to facilitate your intellect (in grasping its deeper meaning).’

This verse shows us that learning Arabic is not just about words but about deepening our connection to guidance and reflection.

Gentle and Joyful Learning

The holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ encouraged teaching the noble Quran with gentleness and patience, helping people to see it as a source of light and comfort. It is recorded in Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 5027, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

‘The best among you are those who learn the Quran and teach it.’

When you show your child that Arabic helps them to understand the noble Quran, you nurture love rather than fear or pressure. Keep lessons simple and joyful, recite together, repeat short verses during car journeys or at bedtime, and remind your child that every word learned brings them closer to the words of Allah Almighty. Your calm example, repeated recitation, and gentle explanations will build a love that lasts.
