The true story of when the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ split the moon is one of the most remarkable Islamic stories for kids. What happens when you ask for proof of the truth but ignore the very sign you are given? In a quiet, moonlit oasis, a group of innocent boys are caught up in a playful sports competition. At the very same time, in a faraway city, the leaders gather and challenge the Last and Final Messenger of Allah Almighty ﷺ to perform an impossible task, one they believe will prove him false.
But what follows is a miracle beyond imagination: the splitting of the Moon, a clear and undeniable sign from Allah. While the boys marvel at the extraordinary sight, the corrupt leaders choose arrogance over faith, turning away from the truth that unfolded before their very eyes.
The Original Moon Landing is a powerful Muslim story that brings to life one of the great miracles in Islamic history. As part of our Islamic stories for kids, it inspires reflection on the importance of recognising and accepting Allah’s signs. This is one of those unforgettable stories for kids that blends history, faith, and wonder in a way that will stay with readers for a lifetime.
This is a true story inspired by real events found in the noble Quran and Sunnah. Anything in the story other than the references recorded below, is a mere elaboration without any historical records or reports. The elaborated part of the story must not be interpreted as adding anything to the original source. It is merely an attempt to give the reader an opportunity to better understand the context of the events, whilst remaining within the spirit of the original source. The actual story is recorded in the following verses of the noble Quran at Surah Al Qamar (54), Verses 1-6:
As the last hour draws near; and the Moon is split (into two pieces by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ),
And if they (the extremists in disbelief) observe any sign (depicting the absolute truth), they desist and say: “This is a constant delusion.”
And they denied (the absolute truth) and (instead) submitted to their whims; (knowing full well that) every action is precise (in its consequences).
And indeed, there has come to them the information (containing the truth) in which is a clear deterrence (depicting the pathways of self-restraint),
(Containing therein) Accomplished wisdom, so they are not released from the cautions (already sent to them).
So, turn away from them (O Prophet Muhammad ﷺ); on the Day (of Resurrection), the Caller shall call them to something inconceivable.
