Creating Practical Anchors for Peace

During the child’s absence, establish immediate, tangible practical anchors to ground your anxiety.Communication Confidence: Ensure you know the caregiver’s exact contact number and have agreed on a communication protocol.Preparedness Rehearsal: Mentally or verbally rehearse your child’s safety plan, confirming the steps, medication location, and emergency contacts. This reinforces your competence.Sensory Grounding: Keep a calming, familiar item, such as a photo of your child, nearby for calm reassurance.

If anxiety spikes, deliberately engage in dhikr (remembrance of Allah Almighty) or focus on short, manageable tasks to redirect and ground your thoughts.

Replacing Helplessness with Hope

A powerful cognitive tool is to consciously visualise your child applying their training calmly and confidently, rather than dwelling on worst-case scenarios. This proactive mental step replaces the feeling of helplessness with hope and confidence in your child’s abilities. Remind yourself consistently that you have done everything within your means to prepare them and the environment for their safety. The peace you seek will come not from constant knowledge of their state, but from trust in the preparation and the knowledge that a higher power watches where you cannot.

Spiritual Insight

The Islamic faith offers a powerful spiritual shield against fear by cultivating absolute trust (tawakkul) in Allah Almighty and fostering a profound sense of divine accompaniment and protection, which is particularly relevant during moments of separation and vulnerability.

The Quran explicitly states that those who sincerely dedicate themselves to Allah Almighty and trust in His providence the ‘allies of Allah’ are free from both fear and grief. For the diligent parent, this message serves as a core principle for handling anxiety.

Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Yunus (10), Verse 62:

‘Unquestionably, [for] the allies of Allah there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve…’

This truth teaches that a parent who has taken all necessary, practical measures in the care and preparation of their child, and then placed their trust in Allah Almighty, is operating under a form of divine protectionFear cannot coexist with full faith and sincere effort. This spiritual clarity provides an immense source of inner peace, affirming that the ultimate outcome is in the hands of the most Merciful.

The Hadith literature provides practical spiritual instructions for seeking security, advising believers to be mindful of Allah Almighty at all times. This mindfulness of Allah (taqwa) in preparation and prayer acts as an anchor for the heart during moments of absence.

It is recorded in Jami Tirmidhi, Hadith 2516, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

‘O young man, I will teach you some words: Be mindful of Allah and He will protect you. Be mindful of Allah and you will find Him before you.’

The parent’s due diligence in managing the allergy the preparation, the training, the communication is a form of being mindful of Allah Almighty’s command to protect life. By fulfilling these duties and supplementing them with sincere du’a (supplication), the parent establishes a spiritual covenant that assures them of Allah Almighty’s presence. This understanding allows the heart to rest, knowing that the child is not left to chance but is under the care of the One who never sleeps.
