Parenting Perspective
A child giving charity often seeks a feeling of moral success. When a dark or contradictory thought pops into their head now of giving, the child may panic. They believe the bad thought has polluted the act, making it worthless or even a sin. This fear can lead to the child avoiding charity altogether to escape the distress. To handle this, the child needs a clear way to separate their intentions from the noise of their brain.
Identifying the mind as a separate entity
It is vital to teach the child that the brain can produce thoughts that do not belong to the heart. A parent can explain that the mind is like a busy street where many strangers walk by; the child does not have to invite every stranger into their home. A useful script for parents is: ‘Your hands did something wonderful, and the stray thought in your head does not change that.’ This helps the child realise that their character is defined by their choice to give, not by a random mental image. By externalising the thought as a ‘brain glitch’, the parent removes the sting of guilt. This validation allows the child to feel proud of their kindness. When the child understands that they are not their thoughts, they regain the freedom to do good without fear.
Focusing on the physical act
Handling the aftermath of a ‘spoiled’ deed requires a focus on reality. A child can manage their anxiety by noticing the physical impact of their charity, such as the coin dropping into a box or the smile of a person receiving a gift. These are real, tangible events that exist outside of the mind. Parents can support the child by saying: ‘The help you gave is real, but the thought is just a shadow.’ This helps the child anchor themselves in the present moment. By repeating the act of giving despite the thoughts, the child builds a resilient character. They learn that goodness is a practice of the hands and heart that can survive any mental storm. Over time, the intrusive thoughts lose their power because the child no longer fears they can negate the good.
Spiritual Insight
Beyond practical steps there is a deeper comfort found in faith. noble Quran and teachings remind us that our efforts are recorded with perfect justice and that the Creator sees the goodness in our hearts today. This connection brings security.
Allah Almighty states in noble Quran at Surah Az-Zalzalah (99), Verse 7:
‘So, whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it.’
This reminds us that every tiny act of kindness is permanent and protected. A child can find peace by realising that even if a thought felt ‘heavy’, their good deed remains recorded and cherished by the Creator. This spiritual truth helps the heart feel safe from the fear of negation. It proves that goodness is stronger than a fleeting doubt.
It is recorded in Sahih Muslim, Hadith 131, that holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
‘He who intended to do a good deed and did not do it, Allah Almighty writes it down with Him as a full good deed; and if he intended it and actually, did it, Allah Almighty writes it down as ten good deeds.’
This teaches us that the very intention to do good is a victory. A child handles the fear of intrusive thoughts by remembering that Allah Almighty rewarded them the moment they decided to be generous. The thoughts are merely obstacles on the path, while the charity is a solid treasure. By relying on the mercy of the Best of Guardians, the child finds a lasting tranquillity. Reliance on the Divine brings ease today.
A child anchored in their identity can navigate the challenges of their mind with a firm heart. By combining practical scripts with the knowledge that they are under the care of the Creator, the child finds relief. Success is achieved through steady effort and trust in the guidance of Allah Almighty. Every small victory in finishing a deed leads to a more balanced life. Peace remains with those who seek help from the Divine. Trust Allah Almighty for He is wise. Success is certain. Every soul is blessed with grace today and always for everyone now and forever more in every single moment today. Success is achieved through His mercy. Success is near. Trust Him always.
