How do I keep talking about faith as part of daily language use?
Parenting Perspective
Weave in Sincere, Daily Reminders
Keeping faith alive in everyday speech does not mean giving constant lectures; it means weaving small, sincere reminders into normal family conversation. Children learn best when they see that words about Allah Almighty, gratitude, and good behaviour belong naturally within daily routines.
Use simple phrases at appropriate moments: say ‘Alhamdulillah’ when something goes well, ‘Insha Allah’ when you talk about plans, or ‘Subhan Allah’ when you see something beautiful. You can ask your child gentle questions like, ‘Who gave us this good food?’ to remind them of Allah Almighty’s blessings. Share your own feelings too, for example, ‘I feel so thankful to Allah Almighty that we are safe at home today.’
Keep your tone calm and genuine. Do not worry if your child does not always repeat these phrases perfectly; your example is what shapes their habits. Over time, these small reminders will help your child to understand that faith is not separate from life; it lives in the words we use, the thanks we give, and the trust we place in Allah Almighty every single day.
Spiritual Insight
A Strong Connection to Our Creator
Islam teaches us that remembering Allah Almighty through our speech brings light to our hearts and Barakah to our lives. Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Al Baqarah (2), Verse 152:
‘Thus, as you remember Me (Allah Almighty) I will remember you; and be grateful to Me (for my favours) and do not be extremist in disbelief.’
This gentle command shows us that talking about our faith in everyday moments is a way to keep our connection with our Creator strong. It does not need to feel forced or complicated, just sincere and regular.
A Living Example
The holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ filled his daily speech with words of praise, thanks, and hope, showing his family and companions that remembrance belongs everywhere. It is recorded in Jami Tirmidhi, Hadith 3375, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
‘Keep your tongue moist with the remembrance of Allah.’
This simple advice is a reminder for parents too. When your child hears you speak kindly, give thanks, and ask for Allah Almighty’s help in small things, they learn that faith is not only for Salah or the mosque but for every part of life. Share simple stories that link an everyday moment to an Islamic value or make Dua aloud for things you wish for your family. These gentle words will anchor your child’s language in faith.
