Parenting Perspective
One of the biggest sources of confusion for children during puberty is timing. Some develop early, others much later, and many compare themselves to peers, feeling left behind or different. Parents can ease these worries by framing differences in timing as part of Allah Almighty’s unique plan for every person. When children see growth through the lens of divine wisdom, they learn patience, self-acceptance, and gratitude.
Start With Reassurance, Not Explanation
When your child says, ‘Everyone else is changing but I am not,’ begin with calm empathy: ‘Allah Almighty made everyone’s body grow at its own pace, and yours is exactly on time for you.’ Avoid saying, ‘It will happen soon,’ as that still measures them against others. Instead, anchor your reassurance in purpose, not prediction.
Use Nature as an Example
You might say, ‘Just as flowers bloom in different seasons, people grow at different times.’ Relatable examples help children see that variation is not delay but design. Emphasising that timing is part of a wider plan encourages contentment rather than comparison.
Focus on Character and Readiness
Remind your child that physical growth is only one kind of maturity. Kindness, patience, and responsibility are equally important. Praise traits like empathy or honesty, qualities they can develop now, so that self-worth does not depend on physical milestones.
Encourage Gratitude and Trust
Daily gratitude helps children remember that their body’s journey is in divine hands. Encourage simple prayers such as, ‘Alhamdulillah for how Allah Almighty made me.’ This transforms comparison into calm acceptance.
By replacing impatience with trust, you teach your child that every stage unfolds perfectly according to Allah Almighty’s plan.
Spiritual Insight
Islam reminds us that everything, from the timing of rain to the stages of human growth, happens with divine precision. Parents who help children see this truth build both patience and faith.
Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Al Qamar (54), Verse 49:
‘Indeed, all things We created with predestination.’
This verse reassures children that nothing in life happens by accident or delay. The timing of their growth is written with the same care that governs the stars and seasons.
It is recorded in Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith 77, that the holy Prophet Muhammad said:
‘Be mindful of Allah and you will find Him before you. Know that what has passed you by was not going to befall you, and what has befallen you was not going to pass you by.’
This Hadith reinforces that timing, whether of growth, success, or change, is decreed with divine wisdom.
By framing different timings of puberty as part of Allah Almighty’s design, parents replace comparison with calm trust. Children learn that their growth is neither early nor late, but exactly on time in the book written by the One who created them, a lesson that nurtures gratitude, peace, and faith-filled patience.
