What can I do to spark wonder at how perfectly it functions?

Children who face delays or slower milestones may grow up seeing their bodies mainly through the lens of what is difficult. They may hear constant reminders of what they cannot yet do. To nurture joy and dignity, parents can help them rediscover the miracle of function. Every breath, every blink, every movement is a quiet reminder of Allah Almighty’s artistry. By sparking wonder in the ordinary, you turn their body from a source of frustration into a source of gratitude.

Parenting Perspective

Start with Daily Marvels

Help your child notice what their body already does with no effort. Say, ‘Your lungs breathe while you sleep,’ or, ‘Your eyes blink to protect you from dust.’ Simple truths about biology, shared in everyday language, ignite curiosity. They begin to see that even unnoticed processes are miracles.

Turn Routines into Discovery

Bath time, meals, or bedtime can be occasions of wonder. While brushing teeth, remind them, ‘These teeth help you chew so your stomach is not hurt.’ While washing hands, say, ‘Your skin keeps out germs like a shield.’ Each act becomes more than routine; it becomes a doorway to awe.

If your child struggles with movement, point out the systems quietly supporting them. You can say, ‘Even when it feels slow, your heart keeps beating strong.’ This reframes their body not as failing, but as faithfully working in other ways.

Invite Exploration Through Play

Children learn best when joy is involved. Use games to discover how bodies function. For example, try holding your breath together and then noticing the relief of inhaling again. Or listen to each other’s heartbeat after running. These playful discoveries stay etched in memory longer than explanations.

Share Stories of Design in Nature

Draw parallels between the body and the wider world. Compare the eye to a camera, the skin to armour, the veins to rivers. By linking human design to familiar things, you awaken a child’s ability to see their own body as part of a grand creation.

Celebrate Healing and Repair

When your child recovers from a cut or illness, draw attention to it: ‘See how your body is mending itself.’ Teaching them that the body heals shows resilience is built into their design. This makes their body feel like a trusted companion, not an enemy.

Spiritual Insight

The noble Quran and Hadith invite us to look closely at the human body, not as a simple vessel, but as one of the greatest signs of Allah Almighty’s wisdom. Helping a child see their body in this light strengthens both faith and self-worth.

Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Fussilat (41), Verses 53:

‘We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth…’

This verse draws attention not only to the vastness of the universe but also to the inner workings of the human self as a sign of divine truth. Share with your child, ‘Allah Almighty placed signs of His greatness inside you, in every heartbeat and every movement.’

It is recorded in Sahih  Bukhari, Hadith 5678, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

‘There is no disease that Allah has created, except that He also has created its treatment.’

This Hadith reveals the balance of the human body and the divine wisdom embedded within it. Explaining to a child that their body carries both vulnerabilities and healing reassures them that they are part of a perfect plan.

When children see their body as a living sign of Allah Almighty’s artistry, they no longer measure it only by comparison with others. They begin to carry a quiet pride that every blink, every stretch, every healing wound is part of a miracle happening inside them. Parents who spark this sense of wonder nurture not only curiosity but also faith, giving their child a lens through which their own body becomes a reminder of Allah Almighty’s mercy and perfection.
