How can I show that their body is a sign of Allah’s artistry?

Children growing at a different pace often feel their body is lacking, incomplete, or somehow inferior to their peers. They may compare themselves endlessly, wishing they were taller, stronger, or quicker. Parents can counter this narrative by planting a different truth in their heart: that their body, in every detail, is a sign of Allah Almighty’s artistry. To see themselves this way is to carry dignity instead of shame.

Parenting Perspective

Begin with Wonder, Not Correction

When your child voices dislike about their body, resist the urge to dismiss or instantly correct. Instead, invite wonder. You might say, ‘Let us notice what your hands can do,’ or, ‘Your heart beats without you even telling it to.’ Shifting the focus from appearance to function helps them recognise the quiet miracles within.

Name the Unique Gifts Their Body Carries

Children often hear what their body cannot do. Balance that by naming what it can. For example: ‘Your hands paint beautifully,’ or, ‘Your smile brings warmth.’ Linking abilities and expressions to identity helps the child value themselves as more than a measurement.

Teach Gratitude Through Small Rituals

Encourage simple habits of thankfulness for the body. After a walk, you might say together, ‘Alhamdulillah for the strength of our legs.’ Before a meal, ‘Alhamdulillah for teeth that can chew.’ These micro-practices teach children that gratitude does not depend on perfection, but on noticing Allah Almighty’s design in daily life.

Use the Language of Art and Creation

Children connect deeply with creative imagery. Tell them, ‘Allah Almighty designed every person like an artist paints, with detail and care.’ Framing the body as a canvas of divine artistry lifts it above comparison and places it in the realm of reverence.

Model Respect for Your Own Body

Children learn more from what we show than what we say. If they hear you criticise your appearance, they may internalise that bodies are things to dislike. Instead, show contentment. Speak words such as, ‘Allah Almighty made me with care, and I am grateful.’ Your acceptance helps them shape their own.

Connect Body and Purpose

Explain that every person’s body is designed for their unique path. One child may run fast, another may listen deeply, another may craft with steady hands. Tell your child, ‘Allah Almighty gave you the body that fits your journey best.’ This teaches that difference is not deficiency, but purposeful design.

Spiritual Insight

Islam honours the human body as one of the most powerful signs of Allah Almighty’s creation. To guide a child towards this view is to protect them from shame and to anchor their worth in gratitude and faith.

Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah At Tin (95), Verses 4:

‘We have certainly created man in the best of stature…’

This verse is a reminder that every human being, regardless of outward differences, has been shaped with dignity and perfection in Allah Almighty’s design. Share this truth with your child, saying, ‘Allah Almighty made you in the best form for your journey.’

It is recorded in Riyadh Al Saliheen, Hadith 611, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

‘Allah is beautiful and He loves beauty.’

This Hadith teaches that beauty lies not only in appearances as defined by people, but in the way Allah Almighty has woven harmony, uniqueness, and function into every body. For a child, this can be simplified as, ‘Allah Almighty made you with beauty He loves.’

By framing their body as a living sign of divine artistry, you teach your child to see beyond comparison. They learn that their worth does not come from how closely they resemble others, but from the fact that they carry the imprint of Allah Almighty’s care. Such understanding plants dignity that cannot be shaken by mockery or by self-doubt. It reminds them that every heartbeat, every smile, and every step is not random, but a brushstroke of divine wisdom and love.
