When discussing provision, parents should begin with concrete examples. Material possessions, like a favourite toy, a desired treat, or new clothing, represent the visible Rizq they often desire. However, the lesson must immediately pivot to the unseen. Use simple, relatable examples to illustrate these intangible gifts. For instance, explain how the feeling of happiness when their parents smile at them is a provision of love, which they cannot physically hold but can certainly feel. Similarly, the ability to learn new things every day, the wisdom imparted by a lesson, or the guidance received when making a difficult choice are provisions from Allah Almighty that are invisible to the eye but profoundly shape their lives. 

Valuing the Spiritual and Emotional Provision 

It is essential to emphasise that Allah Almighty’s provision beyond the physical world, the spiritual and emotional gifts, are often the most valuable. While a new toy brings temporary excitement, a heart full of patience or a mind filled with wisdom offers lasting benefit and draws them closer to Allah Almighty. By framing these non physical attributes as equally vital forms of sustenance, you elevate their importance. Stress that while we thank Allah Almighty for the food on the table, we must also thank Him for the love in our hearts that allows us to share that food with contentment. This holistic view ensures their understanding of provision is comprehensive and deeply rooted in Tawhid. 

Spiritual Insight 

The concept of unseen provision is central to faith, encouraging trust in Allah Almighty, whose knowledge and dispensing of blessings surpass human comprehension. Spiritual insight teaches that the visible blessings are merely a fraction of the comprehensive care Allah Almighty extends to those who submit to Him. 

The scripture assures believers that provision flows from sources beyond immediate physical sight, linking belief with access to this abundant supply. 

Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Al-A’raf (7), Verse 96: 

‘If only the people of those towns had believed and been God fearing, We would have opened up to them blessings from the heavens and the earth…’ 

This verse powerfully illustrates that Rizq extends beyond the visible, demonstrating that Allah Almighty’s provision includes both the material blessings sourced from the earth and the unseen, spiritual gifts descending from the heavens, such as revelation, tranquillity, and guidance. This teaches us that Allah Almighty’s care encompasses not just what we can physically hold in our hands, but also the intangible gifts that nurture our souls and deepen our relationship with Him. When a child understands this, they realise that their deepest needs are met by a source that operates across all realms of existence. 

The guidance from holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ confirms that true wealth is not in material abundance but in the unseen contentment of the soul. 

It is recorded in Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 6446, that holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:  

‘Wealth (and by extension, provision) is not in having many possessions, but true wealth is the richness of the soul.’ 

This profound prophetic teaching redefines the meaning of provision. It explicitly directs our focus away from seen abundance of wealth towards unseen richness of the soul. For a parent, this is a powerful tool to teach a child that feeling content, grateful, and at peace is the greatest provision from Allah Almighty. While money and possessions are blessings, they are incomplete without the inner tranquillity that only faith can provide. This Hadith helps children value emotional and spiritual well being as the ultimate form of wealth, fostering a resilient faith that finds security not in what they have, but in who they are as contented servants of Allah Almighty. 

To help children understand that Rizq includes both seen and unseen gifts, explain that Allah Almighty provides for them in ways they can touch and see, like food, toys, and clothing, but also in ways they feel and experience, like love, guidance, and wisdom. Illustrate that a smile from a parent, the ability to learn, or the patience to make good choices are forms of unseen Rizq that shape life profoundly. Teach them to value both equally, emphasising that while material blessings are temporary, spiritual and emotional gifts bring lasting benefit and draw them closer to Allah Almighty. Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ explained that true wealth is not in possessions, but in the richness of the soul, showing children that contentment, gratitude, and inner peace are the greatest forms of Rizq from Allah Almighty.
