What Routines Can Help Them Notice Small Daily Blessings from Allah Almighty?

Parenting Perspective

To cultivate a deep and lasting appreciation for Allah Almighty’s provision (Rizq), it is insufficient to discuss the concept abstractly; rather, we must embed the recognition of these gifts into the routines of daily life. These consistent practices create a continuous spiritual awareness, helping children to see blessings in moments they might otherwise overlook.

Establishing Rituals of Gratitude

Incorporating specific, repeatable routines of gratitude is the most effective method for achieving this awareness. These habits should be introduced gently but consistently to ensure they become ingrained behaviours. For instance, make it a non-negotiable practice for the family to say ‘Alhamdulillah’ immediately after finishing every meal, acknowledging the nourishment received. Similarly, establishing a moment of quiet reflection before sleep—a brief opportunity to thank Allah Almighty for their safety throughout the day and for the comfort of their beds—reinforces the protective aspect of His provision.

Connecting Actions to Divine Source

It is important to move beyond rote recitation and encourage genuine reflection. When children complete a challenging task, such as finishing their homework or successfully navigating a complex social situation, prompt them to articulate why they succeeded. The answer should be framed around Allah Almighty’s support: ‘We thank Allah Almighty for the blessing of focus and the ease He granted us to complete this.’ Furthermore, times of simple enjoyment, such as sharing fun moments with family, should be accompanied by verbal acknowledgements of the joy granted. These simple, repeated habits create a powerful cognitive link: everyday activity is immediately associated with Allah Almighty’s blessings, big and small, fostering an appreciation for life in its simplest, purest forms.

Spiritual Insight

The commitment to routine gratitude is a spiritual discipline that illuminates the continuous nature of divine favour. The Qur’an urges reflection upon the sustenance provided, viewing the very mechanics of existence as proofs of Allah Almighty’s boundless generosity, intended to secure both physical survival and spiritual elevation.

The verse relating to the earth’s subjugation serves as a foundational reminder that every element required for life is part of a deliberate system of provision designed for us.

Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Al-Mulk (67), Verse 15:

‘It is He who has made the earth subservient to you; so traverse in its tracks and partake of the sustenance which He has provided…’

This verse does more than confirm the availability of food; it outlines a divine relationship with our environment. It invites us to reflect on the small, everyday blessings—the solid ground beneath our feet, the air we breathe, the provision of the harvest—reminding us that even the simplest elements of life are orchestrated components of His sustenance. By adopting routines of gratitude, as encouraged by this verse’s implicit call to action, we foster a deeper sense of awareness and thankfulness for all the blessings, seen and unseen, that accompany our journey upon this earth.

Holy Prophet Muhammad  clarified the spiritual magnitude of thanking Allah Almighty even for minor favours, establishing this practice as a path to immense reward.

It is recorded in Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2999, that holy Prophet Muhammad  said:

‘Wondrous is the affair of the believer, for there is good for him in every matter. If he is granted ease, he thanks Allah Almighty and there is good for him; and if he is afflicted with hardship, he shows patience and there is good for him.’

This Hadith profoundly sanctifies the routines we establish. It elevates the thanking of Allah Almighty for a drink of cool water or a moment of quiet rest to an act worthy of great reward. For the parent, this means that encouraging a child to say ‘Alhamdulillah’ after a small good event is participating in an act of immense spiritual merit. The continuous small thank-yous accumulate, transforming the believer’s state from one of mere consumption to one of active, conscious reciprocity with the Creator. This disciplined awareness proves that true Rizq is never scarce, as Allah Almighty has made His blessings continuous, requiring only our eyes to see and our tongues to acknowledge them.

To help children notice small daily blessings from Allah Almighty, establish consistent routines that link everyday moments to His provision. Encourage saying Alhamdulillah after meals, quiet reflection before sleep to thank Allah Almighty for safety and comfort, and acknowledgment of help or focus received during tasks or learning. Teach them to connect simple joys, like family time or a kind word, to Allah Almighty’s blessings. Holy Prophet Muhammad  emphasized that every circumstance holds good. Ease invites gratitude and hardship invites patience. These routines cultivate continuous awareness, teaching children that even the smallest gifts, from clean water to a peaceful moment, are meaningful Rizq from Allah Almighty.
