Parenting Perspective
The urge to check a bag repeatedly for an item like a bus pass is a sign of a search for total certainty. A student feels that if they do not see the pass at that exact moment it might have vanished. This creates a cycle of anxiety where each check only provides a few seconds of relief before the doubt returns to the mind.
Breaking the checking cycle
A student can manage this habit by using a physical and verbal lock. Instead of just looking at the pass they can place it in a specific zipped pocket and say out loud once that the pass is now safe. This vocal action helps the brain record the event more clearly than a silent habit. Parents can encourage the child to use a clear plastic window in their bag so they can see the pass without opening the zip. This reduces the physical ritual of searching through the bag which often fuels the panic. By making the pass visible through a window the student can use a quick glance to satisfy the mind. This simple adjustment helps the student stay focused on their journey rather than the contents of their pocket.
Building trust in the first check
It is helpful for the student to practice a delay before they allow themselves to check again. When the urge to open the bag arises the student can try to wait for three minutes while focusing on a different task. This proves to the brain that the feeling of doubt is just a thought and not a reality. Parents can support this by explaining that the pass has not moved since it was first placed inside. The goal is to trust the memory of the first check rather than the fear of the second one. This process takes time and consistent practice to build a resilient character. By focusing on their own internal memory the student gains confidence in their ability to be prepared. This builds a sense of stability that lasts throughout the school day.
Spiritual Insight
Beyond practical steps there is a deeper peace found in faith. noble Quran and teachings remind us that our true security comes from the Creator who knows all things and protects every soul. This connection brings a sense of calm to the restless mind today.
Allah Almighty states in noble Quran at Surah Al Talaaq (65), Verse 3:
‘And whoever relies upon Allah Almighty then He is sufficient for him…’
This reminds us that ultimate sufficiency and safety are granted by the Creator alone. When a student feels the need to check their bag twenty times they can find peace by relying on the protection of Allah Almighty. This spiritual truth removes the heavy weight of needing to control every single detail of the day.
It is recorded in Jami Tirmidhi, Hadith 2517, that holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
‘Tie your camel and trust in Allah Almighty.’
This teaches us that we should take reasonable steps to be prepared and then leave the rest to the Divine. A student handles the fear of losing a pass by checking once and then placing their trust in the Best of Guardians. Reliance on the wisdom of Allah Almighty provides a lasting comfort that a repetitive ritual can never offer.
A student who is anchored in their own identity can navigate the challenges of the school run with a firm heart. By combining practical boundaries with the knowledge that trust is valued they find relief from the pressure of checking. Success is achieved through steady effort and sincere reliance on the mercy of the Creator. Every small victory in trusting a memory is a step toward a more peaceful life.
