How do I share Hadith about men and women supporting each other?

Parenting Perspective

Teach That Men and Women are Partners

Sharing Hadith about men and women supporting each other involves explaining that Islam encourages cooperation, respect, and mutual support between the genders. You can begin by teaching your child that men and women are partners in this world, and that both are responsible for contributing to their family and to society. You might say, ‘In Islam, men and women are not in competition with each other. Instead, they are partners who support one another in their different roles.’

Share Examples of the Prophet’s Actions

You can use stories from the life of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to show this partnership in action. For example, you can share narrations of how he would help with chores at home, mend his own clothes, and consult with his wives, valuing their wisdom and opinions. These examples show that supporting one another is a noble act for both men and women.

Praise Cooperation

Finally, you should praise your child for showing kindness and cooperation in their own relationships, as this reinforces that supporting one another is a key part of being a good Muslim. ‘I am proud of how you help your sibling and contribute to the family. This is what Islam teaches us, to support and to care for each other.’

Spiritual Insight

In Islam, both men and women are equal partners in fulfilling their responsibilities to Allah and to society. Allah Almighty says in the noble Quran at Surah At-Tawbah (9), Verse 71:

‘And the believing men and the believing women, some of them are role models for each other; where they encourage (the doing of) positive (moral actions), and forbid (the doing of) negative (immoral actions); and they establish their prayer and make the benevolent donations – ‘Zakah’, and they (sincerely) obey (the commandments) of Allah (Almighty) and His Messenger (Prophet Muhammad )….’

This verse highlights that both men and women work together in the pursuit of righteousness, supporting each other in their duties to Allah.

The holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also taught the importance of mutual support and respect between men and women. It is recorded in Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 3587, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ stated:

‘The best of you are those who are the best to their families.’

This Hadith reinforces the idea that men and women should support and help each other in their roles as partners in both family life and society. By teaching your child the importance of supporting one another, you are helping them to internalise these Islamic values of cooperation, respect, and mutual care.
