The actual story is recorded in the following verses of the noble Quran at Surah Al Baqarah (2), Verse 258:
أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِى حَآجَّ إِبْرَٰهِۦمَ فِى رَبِّهِۦٓ أَنْ ءَاتَىٰهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُلْكَ إِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَٰهِۦمُ رَبِّىَ ٱلَّذِى يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ قَالَ أَنَا۠ أُحْىِۦ وَأُمِيتُ قَالَ إِبْرَٰهِۦمُ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَأْتِى بِٱلشَّمْسِ مِنَ ٱلْمَشْرِقِ فَأْتِ بِهَا مِنَ ٱلْمَغْرِبِ فَبُهِتَ ٱلَّذِى كَفَرَ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ(O Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) Did you not observe the one (Nimrod) who argued with (Prophet) Ibraheem (AS), concerning his Sustainer because he had been given by Allah (Almighty) a kingdom? When (Prophet) Ibraheem (AS) said: “My Sustainer is the One Who creates life and (decides the time of) mortal expiration,” he (Nimrod) said: “I can also grant life and cause death.” Then (Prophet) Ibraheem (AS) said: “Then indeed, it is Allah (Almighty) Who raises the Sun from the East; so, now you raise it from the West.” Thus he (Nimrod) became dumbfounded with his disbelief, and Allah (Almighty) does not show guidance to those nations who are imbued in the darkness (of their ignorance and immorality).
