The actual story is recorded in the following verses of the noble Quran at Surah Al Anbiyaa (21), Verses 68-71:
قَالُوا۟ حَرِّقُوهُ وَٱنصُرُوٓا۟ ءَالِهَتَكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ فَٰعِلِينَ
They (the people) said: “Burn him (Prophet Ibraheem (AS)) and thus assist (by reinforcing the idea of the reality of) your (pagan) gods, if you (intend to) do anything about it.”
قُلْنَا يَٰنَارُ كُونِى بَرْدًا وَسَلَٰمًا عَلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ
We (Allah Almighty) said: “O Fire, become a source of coolness and tranquility upon (Prophet) Ibraheem (AS).”
وَأَرَادُوا۟ بِهِۦ كَيْدًا فَجَعَلْنَٰهُمُ ٱلْأَخْسَرِينَ
And they intended with this fanatical inquisition (to exterminate Prophet Ibraheem (AS), by burning him at the stake); but We (Allah Almighty) caused them to suffer the greatest deficit.
وَنَجَّيْنَٰهُ وَلُوطًا إِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ ٱلَّتِى بَٰرَكْنَا فِيهَا لِلْعَٰلَمِينَ
And We (Allah Almighty) saved him (Prophet Ibraheem (AS) from the fire), and (Prophet) Loot (AS), (by guiding them) to the land, from which We (Allah Almighty) had blessed, the whole world.
It is also reported in Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 4563:
It was narrated by (Murshid Imam) ibn Abbas (RA), who said: ‘When (Prophet) Ibraheem (AS) was thrown into the fire, he said: “Allah Almighty (Alone) is sufficient for us, and He is excellent as the Ultimate Trustee (of all our affairs).” So did the Messenger of Allah Almighty, Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), when he was told: “A great army of the pagans had gathered (against him), so fear them”. But this (warning) only increased him and the Muslims in faith and they said: “Allah Almighty (Alone) is sufficient for us, and He is excellent as the Ultimate Trustee (of all our affairs).”’
