What kind of routine or reminder can help me stay grounded before the chaos begins?

Parenting Perspective

The Power of a Deliberate Reset

Staying grounded does not require an elaborate morning ritual. It does, however, call for consistency. Just five to ten minutes of deliberate grounding, prior to the demands of parenthood, can change your reaction to stress when it eventually arises. Establish a dependable reset point first. This might be a single grounding phrase whispered to yourself each morning: I am my child’s anchor, not their storm. You might write an intention on a sticky note where you brush your teeth, Lead with calm, or Connection first.

Using Tactile and Contextual Cues

Include a tactile reminder in your pocket or next to your kitchen sink, such as a Misbahah (tasbih), a cold spoon, or a smooth stone. When emotions surge, these objects act as anchors, providing a stable environment for your nervous system to return to. Connect your grounding to contextual clues. For instance, take a deep breath or repeat a calming affirmation each time you fold laundry or switch on the kettle. Regularly conducting these brief check-ins fosters internal readiness rather than deceptive control. You are not stopping the chaos. You are simply arriving to meet it with clarity.

Spiritual Insight

The holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ began each day with remembrance. He made Dua upon waking, stepped out with intention, and asked for protection from the chaos of the unseen and the seen. It is recorded in Jami Tirmidhi, Hadith 2411, the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

Do not talk too much without remembrance of Allah. Indeed, excessive talking without remembrance of Allah Almighty hardens the heart. And indeed, the furthest of people from Allah Almighty is the harsh-hearted.

You can follow this sunnah with a daily morning Dua: O Allah, make this day a source of mercy, not anger. In Surah Al Kahf (18), Verse 10, the young men of the cave prayed:

…O our Sustainer, bestow upon us Your special mercy, and facilitate for us all of our affairs, in a righteous manner.”

This verse, Prepare me for what is coming, can become your own. Sacred potential exists in even the most mundane mornings. When you start your day with purpose, reflection, and even a few quiet moments, your serenity turns into more than simply a habit; it becomes a kind of spiritual preparedness that you take into parenthood.
