What is a beautiful way to show a child that Allah knows their feelings even before they express them?

Parenting Perspective

Children often struggle to express what they feel, sometimes out of confusion and other times from a fear that no one will understand. Helping them to realise that Allah Almighty already knows their feelings, even before they can describe them, provides them with a deep emotional security. It teaches them that they never have to hide from their Creator, and that He understands their silence, their tears, and even the emotions they cannot name. This awareness helps to build a loving and trusting connection with Allah Almighty, one that is rooted not in fear, but in comfort.

Explaining Through a Familiar Love

You can begin with something familiar to your child. You could tell them, ‘When you look sad, I can often tell even before you say anything, can I not? That is because I love you and I notice you.’ Then you can add, ‘Allah Almighty loves you even more. He knows how you feel before you even make a sound.’

This simple comparison helps them to grasp an abstract truth through the experience of a real, loving relationship. They learn that the awareness of Allah is not like surveillance; it is a form of personal and kind care.

Illustrating Divine Attention Through Nature

Children can understand big ideas through a sense of wonder. You could sit outside together and say, ‘Do you see those tiny ants? Allah Almighty knows every single one of them. If He takes care of them, then He surely knows everything that is in your heart too.’

Moments like these connect a feeling of awe with a sense of intimacy, helping them to realise that the same Lord who sustains the galaxies is also close enough to feel their smallest emotion.

Finding Reassurance in Quiet Moments

When your child is quiet after a long day, you can gently say, ‘Even if you do not want to talk right now, that is okay. Allah Almighty knows exactly what you feel inside.’ This reassurance turns their silence into a feeling of safety. It teaches them that their emotions do not need to be perfectly explained to be understood. Their relationship with Allah does not depend on their words, but on their sincerity.

Encouraging a Wordless Connection

Teach your child that dua does not always have to be spoken aloud. You can tell them, ‘Sometimes we can just sit quietly and think about what we feel, and Allah Almighty already knows what we are saying in our hearts.’

You can practise this together by sitting quietly, closing your eyes, breathing deeply, and saying, ‘We are talking to Allah in our hearts now.’ This helps children to experience a spiritual connection that goes beyond language, a bond of presence and peace.

Spiritual Insight

One of the greatest mercies of Allah Almighty is His complete knowledge. He knows every thought before it forms and every tear before it falls. Teaching this truth to children helps them to feel constantly cared for, even when no one else seems to understand.

The Deep Knowledge of Allah in the Quran

Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Qaf (50), Verse 16:

‘And We have already created man and know what his soul whispers to him, and We are closer to him than [his] jugular vein…’

This verse reminds us that the closeness of Allah Almighty is not symbolic; it is real, constant, and compassionate. He knows every unspoken whisper of the heart. When children hear this verse, they can begin to understand that they never need to struggle alone. Allah already understands what they are feeling, even before they speak.

The Prophet’s Words on Allah’s Awareness

It is recorded in Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2564, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

‘Allah does not look at your bodies or your forms, but He looks at your hearts and your deeds.’

This teaches us that Allah Almighty values what lies inside us, our sincerity, our effort, and our emotion, even more than what others can see. When parents share this with warmth, children come to realise that Allah understands them perfectly, even in their silence.

When children truly believe that Allah Almighty knows their feelings before they express them, they stop feeling invisible. They gain emotional resilience because they know their hearts are never ignored and their tears are never unseen.

Over time, this belief becomes a quiet source of strength. They will grow into adults who carry their emotions not as secrets, but as sacred conversations with Allah Almighty. In moments of confusion, they will remember, “Allah knows my heart, even when I cannot find the words.”

In that realisation, they will find a peace that does not depend on being understood by the world, but on being known completely by the One who created their hearts in the first place.
