Parenting Perspective
When children begin to experience early changes, such as growing taller than their friends, noticing physical differences, or feeling surprising new emotions, they may interpret these moments as strange or unfair. Parents can guide them to view these changes not as random events but as signs of the perfect wisdom of Allah Almighty. The goal is to replace confusion with curiosity, and discomfort with awe, helping the child see that Allah Almighty designs every stage of growth with care and purpose.
Normalising Difference with Faith
Start by normalising difference. Explain that every person’s body and timeline for growth are unique, shaped by the wisdom of Allah Almighty. You can say, ‘Allah Almighty made your body to grow exactly when it is ready. He knows what is best for you, just as He knows when the sun should rise or when rain should fall’. Linking their experience to familiar patterns in nature helps the child understand that their development is part of a larger, perfect design. This perspective removes fear and builds acceptance.
Framing Growth as Timely, Not Early
Children often seek reassurance that nothing is ‘wrong’ with them. Avoid describing their change as early or late; instead, describe it as timely. Use phrases like, ‘This is your time, chosen by Allah Almighty’, or, ‘Allah Almighty lets each person grow at the right pace’. Such language teaches that change is not an accident but a lesson in patience and trust. When children hear these affirming words, they can begin to feel proud of the wisdom of Allah Almighty in their lives rather than anxious about comparison.
Using Creation to Explain Divine Harmony
Encourage reflection through observation. During quiet family moments, point out examples of balance in creation, like the way seasons shift, how fruit ripens in its own time, or how rain falls when the earth needs it. Then connect these signs to human growth. Say, ‘Just as Allah Almighty gives every flower its own time to bloom, He gives every child a perfect moment for growth’. These comparisons help children recognise divine harmony in both the world and themselves.
Finding Purpose in Discomfort
To further strengthen this mindset, help children notice the purpose in what feels uncomfortable. If they are frustrated about acne, growth spurts, or tiredness, explain that these are signs that their body is working hard to prepare them for maturity. You might say, ‘Allah Almighty is strengthening your body for the responsibilities ahead. Every change has meaning, even if it feels strange now’. This teaches resilience through understanding.
Modelling an Attitude of Wonder
Model the same attitude in your own words. Express wonder aloud when talking about creation or health. Say, ‘SubhanAllah, look how our bodies heal and grow’, or, ‘Allah Almighty is so wise; every part of us knows what to do’. Hearing gratitude in daily conversation makes faith sound natural and comforting. Children learn that belief in the wisdom of Allah Almighty is not an abstract idea but a living awareness woven into daily life.
Encouraging Daily Reflection
Encourage journaling or bedtime reflection. Ask your child, ‘What amazing thing did Allah Almighty make your body do today?’ This simple question trains them to see change as evidence of divine planning rather than an inconvenience. Over time, such habits transform self-consciousness into gratitude and trust.
Spiritual Insight
Islam reminds believers that everything in creation follows a pattern of divine wisdom. Every stage of growth, from the smallest cell to the broadest sky, reflects precision, mercy, and order. Teaching children to see their own development through this lens allows them to witness the attributes of Allah Almighty in their everyday life: His knowledge, power, and care.
Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Al Mulk (67), Verse 3:
‘He who created seven heavens in layers; you do not see in the creation of the Most Merciful any inconsistency. So return your vision; do you see any flaw?’
This verse teaches that nothing in creation is random or imperfect. When children learn that their bodies are part of this flawless system, they begin to view their changes as reflections of divine artistry. Every new feature, feeling, or phase becomes a sign of how completely the wisdom of Allah Almighty surrounds them.
It is recorded in Jami Tirmidhi, Hadith 2156, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
‘Allah has decreed the measure of all things fifty thousand years before He created the heavens and the earth.’
This Hadith reminds children that the plan of Allah Almighty covers every detail, including how and when their bodies grow. Understanding this brings peace to the heart. What once felt confusing now feels purposeful, guided by One who makes no mistakes.
Encourage your child to say small prayers of wonder, such as, ‘SubhanAllah, for the way You made me grow’, or, ‘Alhamdulillah, for Your perfect plan’. These simple words turn awareness into worship. When they look in the mirror and thank Allah Almighty for His design and balance, self-consciousness can turn into serenity.
Through these reflections, children come to see that early changes are not signs of difference but of divine attention. Their growing bodies become reminders of the perfection of Allah Almighty, their emotions reminders of His mercy, and their curiosity a doorway to faith. In every new stage, they learn that wisdom is not only found in books or lessons but is written within them: a living sign of the Creator who makes no change without meaning.
