What habits can make them notice ease as part of Rizq?

Parenting Perspective

It is a mark of spiritual wisdom that you wish to draw your child’s attention to the quiet beauty of ease. In a world that often measures Rizq( provision) by its size, its drama, or its cost, the greatest and most constant blessing often goes unseen: the smooth functioning of life, the absence of chaos, and the gift of tranquility. We notice difficulty instantly, but ease, precisely because it is smooth and effortless, tends to vanish into the background. Your beautiful task is to train your child’s spiritual eye to observe this subtle, constant flow of protection.

Ease is perhaps the most generous and underestimated form of Rizq. It is the uninterrupted sleep, the lack of conflict within the home, the car starting smoothly in the morning, or the reliable flow of clean water. These are not accidents; they are deliberate gifts from Al-Mu’min, the Giver of Security.

The Daily Inventory of the Absent

A profound habit you can establish is the Evening Inventory of the Absent. Instead of only focusing on what was acquired during the day, spend a few moments before bed or at the dinner table listing things that did not happen.

You might lead the conversation by saying: ‘Alhamdulillah for the things we take for granted today. Our day was blessed because the electricity did not fail during study time. We were protected because the journey to school had no difficulties. We were provided for because there was no harsh argument in our home.’ This practice reframes the absence of struggle as a positive, active intervention from Allah Almighty. It teaches your child that peace and security are not the default setting of the universe, but rather carefully curated gifts. They will begin to realise the immense provision wrapped up in simply having a regular, calm day.

Gratitude for Function and Flow

You can encourage a habit of gratitude focused specifically on function and flow. When systems work without interruption, draw attention to the ease of the process.

For instance, when they turn a tap and hot water flows instantly, you might whisper, ‘SubhanAllah Almighty, what a mercy it is to have clean, hot water without effort. This is a blessing that protects our health and gives us comfort.’ When the family successfully collaborates on a difficult task without arguing, you can say, ‘Alhamdulillah for the ease and love Allah Almighty placed in our hearts to help us finish this smoothly.’ This attributes the success of teamwork and technology to the Divine permission and provision, showing them that functional systems are a priceless form of Rizq.

Distinguishing Tranquility from Transaction

It is important to show that ease is an internal state that cannot be purchased. You can help your child recognise the difference between the momentary excitement of a new purchase and the deep, lasting satisfaction of inner peace. When they experience a moment of quiet contentment, perhaps reading a book or sitting peacefully with family, you can draw attention to that feeling. You might say, ‘This feeling of quietness and safety in your heart is the most beautiful Rizq Allah Almighty can give. No amount of money can buy this tranquility.’ By naming and valuing the inner blessings, you teach your child that the highest form of Rizq is found in the heart, not in the shopping trolley.

Spiritual Insight

The reason we are guaranteed ease is rooted in the perfection of Allah Almighty’s Wisdom and His mercy towards His creation. Ease is a constant reassurance that Divine care is present even amidst the inevitable struggles of life. When your child feels burdened by a task or worried about the future, the Quran provides the ultimate anchor, linking the temporary nature of difficulty to the profound certainty of relief.

Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Al Sharh (94), Verses 5- 6:

‘For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease. Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.’

These verses, repeated for emphasis, teach a profound spiritual law: ease is never separate from hardship; it is contained within it, or immediately follows it. You can explain to your child that this means even during their times of struggle, Allah Almighty has already arranged the means of their relief. This truth fundamentally changes how they view difficulty. Instead of feeling despair when things are hard, they can hold onto hope, knowing that ease is a promised provision that always accompanies the test. This certainty allows them to navigate difficulty with patience and tranquility, which is itself a form of ease.

The beautiful connection between recognizing this ease and the required human response is beautifully captured in the Sunnah. When a believer successfully recognizes ease as a form of Rizq, they respond with profound gratitude.

It is recorded in Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2999, that holy Prophet Muhammad  said:

‘Wondrous is the case of the believer; there is good for him in everything… if prosperity attends him, he expresses gratitude to Allah Almighty and that is good for him; and if adversity befalls him, he endures it patiently, and that is also good for him.’

This Hadith provides the perfect framework for understanding ease as part of Rizq. Prosperity, or ease, is a test that requires Shukr (gratitude). You can explain to your child that their ease and comfort are not neutral events; they are Divine tests that measure their response. By expressing gratitude for the smooth functioning of their day, they turn that ease into a source of ongoing reward. This habit transforms the quiet blessings of a normal day into a continuous act of worship, ensuring that they never overlook the magnificent, subtle provision of peace and security.
