Is it helpful to use Islamic apps for learning?

Parenting Perspective

A Tool for Fun and Accessible Learning

Islamic apps can be a wonderful tool to help children learn the basics of their faith, especially if your child has special educational needs (SEN) or prefers visual, interactive activities. The right apps can make learning feel fun, accessible, and stress-free. However, like any screen time, balance and supervision are key.

Choosing the Right Apps

Start by choosing apps that match your child’s age and attention span. For young children, simple Qur’an recitation apps, basic Arabic letter games, or short animations about the Prophets ﷺ can help plant seeds of love for their faith. Popular choices include apps that repeat short Surahs, teach Duas with visuals, or use gentle songs to teach Islamic manners.

Turning Passive Watching into Active Learning

Sit with your child whenever possible. Turn passive watching into active learning by repeating the words together, practising saying the Dua aloud, or linking what they see to daily life. For example: ‘You heard about saying Bismillah; let us say it before our snack too!’ This connection builds real understanding rather than just ticking a box.

Keep it Balanced and Pressure-Free

Keep sessions short; a few minutes at a time are better than long periods that might overwhelm your child. Balance app time with real-world practice: read an Islamic storybook together, listen to Qur’an recitation in the car, or role-play saying Salam and sharing with kindness. Notice how your child responds. If they get frustrated, bored, or overstimulated, adjust your approach or take a break. Islamic learning should feel peaceful, not pressured.

Spiritual Insight

Faith is built gently, step by step. Allah Almighty reminds us in the noble Quran at Surah Al A’raaf (7), Verse 31:

…And eat and drink but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess. ‘

This Ayah shows us that moderation applies to everything, even good things. Using Islamic apps with balance helps protect your child’s heart from overload while keeping learning joyful.

The holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ always taught at a pace people could handle, never overwhelming them. It is recorded in Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 1970, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ stated:

The most beloved deeds to Allah are those done regularly, even if they are few.

Small, consistent use of Islamic apps, paired with real-life examples, is more powerful than long hours of passive screen time.

Make a simple Dua: ‘O Allah Almighty, make my child’s heart love Your words and Your ways.’ Remind your child that apps are tools, but the real reward comes from practising what they learn; showing kindness, honesty, and gratitude in daily life.

With calm choices, gentle supervision, and your trust in Allah Almighty’s mercy, Islamic apps can become a sweet doorway to learning, helping your child build a love for their Deen that stays long after the screen is switched off.
