Parenting Perspective
A teenager can experience the feeling that their actions have a magical impact on their future. This belief is likely to manifest as a compulsive need to check an influencer profile to prevent bad luck. This thought process is a form of digital superstition that thrives on uncertainty. To handle this, a teenager can acknowledge that these thoughts are intrusive. Checking a screen cannot control the events of life. Parents can support their child by encouraging them to name the thought as a glitch in their thinking. This separation helps the teen realise they are not their thoughts. Identifying the urge as a repetitive loop helps the teenager take power back.
Building Resistance through Gradual Exposure
Another strategy involves the teenager intentionally delaying the action of checking the device. They can start by waiting for five minutes when the urge to check arises. During this time, the teenager is likely to feel discomfort, but they can practice sitting with this feeling without giving in to the ritual. Parents can encourage their child to engage in a physical task that requires attention. It is important for the teenager to see that no catastrophe occurs when they choose not to check. These small victories build a resilient character. By focusing on the present moment, the teenager can move away from the fear of future luck.
Spiritual Insight
Beyond strategies, there lies the deeper nourishment faith offers. noble Quran and Sunnah (Practice) remind us that raising children is about nurturing hearts that remember Allah Almighty. This connection provides security.
Allah Almighty states in noble Quran at Surah Al Tawbah (9), Verse 51:
‘Say, never will we be struck except by what Allah Almighty has decreed for us; He is our protector.’
This reminds us that control of all affairs belongs only to Allah Almighty. A teenager can find relief in knowing an influencer profile has no power over their destiny. This spiritual truth removes the weight of superstition.
It is recorded in Jami Tirmidhi, Hadith 2516, that holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
‘Be mindful of Allah Almighty and He will protect you. Be mindful of Allah Almighty and you will find Him in front of you.’
This teaches us that mindfulness of the Creator brings Divine protection. A teenager can handle fear by trusting that Allah Almighty is the Best of Guardians. Reliance on the mercy of the Creator provides comfort and peace.
Handling the fear of digital superstition requires a firm heart. By using parenting strategies such as delaying the urge, a teenager can move from compulsion to calm control. This balance of practical action and spiritual trust ensures the teenager feels ready. Growth is a gradual process that requires patience from the parent. Encouraging them to seek help from Allah Almighty in moments of stress provides a tool for managing anxiety. Success comes from consistent guidance and a heart connected to the Divine. Relying on the mercy of Allah Almighty provides comfort. With a firm heart, the teenager stays true to values. Success is certain with Him. Trust Allah Almighty always for He is wise and kind. Every teenager is protected by Him. Success is always near. Trust Him always and forever.
