Parenting Perspective
Hearing a doctor express concern about your child’s growth can instantly trigger feelings of deep fear and guilt. However, genuine calmness begins with clearly distinguishing between what is within your control and what is not.
Replacing Panic with Informed Action
Instead of succumbing to panic or rushing to alarming conclusions, your first response should be to calmly request specific details. Ask the medical team:
- What specific growth markers are currently being monitored?
- What are the realistic expectations and timescales for improvement?
- What practical dietary or lifestyle adjustments can be made to offer support?
A calm, informed parent can effectively advocate for their child, whereas anxiety only clouds decision-making and leads to impulsive actions.
Focusing on Environment and Effort
It is important to remember that growth is influenced by a complex blend of factors, including genetics, appetite, overall stress levels, and crucial emotional wellbeing. Children thrive best in environments that are emotionally safe; conversely, constant panic or heavy pressure about size and weight can make them anxious about food or diminish their sense of self-worth. Focus your daily efforts on creating peaceful mealtimes, ensuring their sleep and hydration are entirely adequate, and celebrating small, consistent progress instead of constantly comparing charts or statistics.
Anchoring Your Heart in Trust
Spiritually, it helps immensely to reframe your fear as a valid concern born of sincere love. You are diligently performing your duty as a responsible caregiver, but the final outcome of growth is ultimately in Allah Almighty’s Hands. The true goal is not the perfection of medical numbers but unwavering faithfulness in effort. Each time you feel worry begin to rise, gently remind yourself: ‘Allah sees my effort, not my outcome.’ That essential remembrance transforms a feeling of helplessness into one of humble reliance (tawakkul), effectively keeping your heart steady even when medical uncertainty lingers.
Spiritual Insight
By consciously shifting your approach from immediate panic to determined patience, you effectively model the practice of tawakkul (reliance on God) for your child. You teach them that true strength lies not in constant control over external variables, but in steadfast effort, heartfelt prayer, and achieving inner peace with Allah’s plan. In doing so, you nurture not only a healthy body but a soul that learns faith through the calm serenity of your own example.
The Quran reminds us that all creation and development is an act of the Divine Will, removing the burden of ultimate responsibility from the parent.
Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Ash Shura (42), Verse 49:
‘ To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He creates what He wills. He grants to whom He wills female [children], and He grants to whom He wills males…’
This verse reflects a profound, universal truth: both creation and development are acts entirely governed by Allah Almighty’s will. Just as He decides the existence and form of every life, He ultimately determines growth, health, and timing. Parents are entrusted with effort and love, but never the outcome. Remembering this truth helps you to calmly surrender anxiety over growth charts and statistics, knowing that every single phase of your child’s development unfolds precisely according to His perfect wisdom.
The Prophet’s teachings guide the believer to accept and find peace with the divine pre-decree.
It is recorded in Al Adab Al Mufrad, Hadith 443, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
‘Anything you spend will be replaced by Him. and He is the best of Providers.’
This profound Hadith offers immense reassurance to hearts that are overwhelmed by worry and uncertainty. Your child’s growth trajectory—whether it is slow or consistently steady—is never outside divine control. It reminds you to trust completely that Allah Almighty has measured every outcome precisely, and no amount of frantic fear can ever alter what He has decreed in His knowledge.
