How do I remind them that Allah watches over their brave efforts?

Parenting Perspective

Children often need reassurance that their efforts, even when small or unnoticed by others, still matter. When they show bravery, whether trying a new sport, standing up for a friend, or finishing a challenging task, they may feel proud but also vulnerable. Parents can nurture confidence by reminding them that their efforts are never wasted, because Allah Almighty is always aware and watching with care.

Connect Courage to Value, Not Outcome

Teach your child that bravery is not only about success but about the attempt itself. Say, ‘I am proud of you for trying, and remember Allah sees your courage, even if you did not win.’ This reframes bravery as an act of value in itself, removing pressure from results.

Use Gentle Reminders in Daily Life

When your child faces difficulty, remind them: ‘Allah knows you are trying your best.’ Simple phrases repeated consistently create an inner voice of reassurance, helping children build resilience when challenges feel daunting.

Guide them to see that courageous actions can be part of Worship when done with good intentions. For example, ‘When you work hard in your game and stay kind, you are pleasing Allah as well as helping your team.’ This ties their effort to something larger than themselves.

Celebrate Private Victories

Encourage reflection after each effort: ask, ‘What did you do bravely today?’ Celebrate these answers with warmth, reinforcing that bravery, whether big or small, is always seen and valued by Allah Almighty.

By consistently linking courage to divine awareness, parents teach children that their brave efforts are meaningful, even when others overlook them. This nurtures self-worth rooted not in external praise but in faith.

Spiritual Insight

Islam teaches that Allah Almighty is fully aware of every effort, struggle, and intention. This awareness is a source of comfort for believers, reminding us that nothing is hidden or forgotten, even if people do not recognise it. For children, knowing that Allah sees their courage can be a powerful motivator to persevere with sincerity.

Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah At Tawbah (9), Verse 105:

‘And say, “Do [as you will], for Allah will see your deeds, and [so will] His Messenger and the believers. And you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you of what you used to do.”’

This reminds us that every action, including the brave efforts of a child, is witnessed by Allah Almighty and carries weight, regardless of worldly recognition.

It is recorded in Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith 4143, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

‘Allah does not look at your appearance or wealth, but He looks at your hearts and your deeds.’

This teaches us that bravery is not measured by outward success but by intention and effort that comes from the heart.

When parents remind children of these truths, courage becomes more than a fleeting act of daring. It becomes a habit rooted in faith, where every brave attempt, whether winning a race or simply speaking up kindly, is an opportunity to gain Allah’s pleasure. This perspective strengthens children not only physically and emotionally, but also spiritually, as they learn to seek approval from Allah Almighty above all else.
