Parenting Perspective
Children often notice differences in skin colour, height, strength, or ability long before they understand them. Without guidance, curiosity can turn into judgment or envy. Parents can protect a child’s heart by teaching that Allah Almighty never creates anything without purpose or wisdom. Every difference, whether in body, talent, or circumstance, is part of His perfect plan.
Begin with the simple truth: ‘Allah Almighty never makes mistakes.’ Tell your child, ‘He made you, me, and everyone around us exactly as He wished, each with a special reason, even if we do not always see it.’ This assurance nurtures peace and respect. It helps children see others not as better or worse, but as unique designs of the same Creator.
Step 1: Use Everyday Examples
When your child asks why someone looks, moves, or speaks differently, answer calmly and gratefully: ‘Allah Almighty gave everyone what they need for their life. He gives one person speed, another creativity, and another patience.’ Show them that difference is not inequality but balance. Point to examples in nature: ‘See how not every tree is the same? Yet together they make a forest.’ Relating divine wisdom to creation makes the concept real for a child’s mind.
Step 2: Turn Observation into Praise
When your child compliments someone’s looks or ability, expand on it: ‘Mashallah, Allah Almighty gave them that gift, and He gave you yours.’ By adding the name of Allah Almighty, you train them to trace every quality back to the Source, preventing pride or jealousy. If they compare themselves to others, respond with calm curiosity: ‘Why do you think Allah Almighty made them that way?’ Then conclude, ‘Because He knows what suits each person best.’
Step 3: Teach Through Stories of Diversity
Share stories of prophets and companions who had different strengths, trials, and appearances: Prophet Musa عليه السلام with his firm speech, Prophet Yusuf عليه السلام with his beauty, and Prophet Ayyub عليه السلام with his patience. Explain that each was given what they needed for their mission, not for comparison. Children learn that the gifts of Allah are purposeful, not random. Say, ‘Allah Almighty gave everyone a story to live. Yours is written just for you.’
Step 4: Build Reflection into a Daily Routine
At bedtime, ask, ‘What is one thing about yourself that helps others?’ Then say, ‘Allah Almighty made that part of you for a reason.’ When this becomes a nightly habit, gratitude and humility grow together. Children learn to look inward with appreciation instead of through the lens of competition.
Spiritual Insight
The Quran beautifully reminds us that diversity in creation is one of the signs of the wisdom and power of Allah Almighty. Nothing is accidental; every difference reflects the knowledge of the One who creates with purpose.
Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Al Mulk (67), Verses 3:
‘He who created seven heavens in layers; you do not see any inconsistency in the creation of the Most Merciful. So return your vision to the sky; do you see any flaws?..’
This verse teaches that the design of Allah Almighty, whether in the heavens, in nature, or in people, is flawless. You can explain, ‘If the sky and stars are perfect in their place, so are you in yours. Allah Almighty made you exactly how He planned.’ This truth builds trust in divine wisdom and replaces doubt with awe.
It is recorded in Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2564, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
‘Verily, Allah does not look at your appearance or wealth, but He looks at your hearts and your deeds.’
This Hadith reminds children that the wisdom of Allah Almighty goes beyond what the eyes can see. He values the intention and sincerity within every soul. You can say, ‘Allah Almighty made each heart different because He loves different ways of goodness.’
Encourage your child to repeat this short reflection: ‘Allah made me with wisdom, and He made others with wisdom too.’ These words teach balance: confidence without pride, and humility without shame. When children grow up believing that divine wisdom shapes every feature and every difference, they stop chasing sameness and begin to look at people, and themselves, with gentler eyes.
