- Avoiding Harm: Discuss why certain things are forbidden, like pork or alcohol. You can mention that these prohibitions are a form of protection from Allah, safeguarding us from physical and spiritual harm.
- Emphasis on Cleanliness: Remind them that Islam places great importance on cleanliness in all aspects of life, including food preparation. This religious instruction naturally promotes good hygiene and health.

The following Quranic verse and prophetic Hadith illuminate this beautiful synergy, showing that the choice to eat what is lawful and good is an act that nourishes the body and elevates the spirit in unison.
Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Al Maaidah (5), Verse 88:
‘And consume from that nourishment (which has been provided) for you from Allah (Almighty)…’
This verse beautifully links what is lawful (Halal) with what is intrinsically good and pure (tayyib), teaching us that the two are inseparable in the eyes of Allah. It conveys a deep lesson for a child: Allah’s rules are not simply about restriction but are a form of loving guidance towards what is genuinely beneficial, wholesome, and nourishing for both body and soul. This understanding reframes obedience as a profound act of self-care, one that is encouraged and guided by our Creator for our own benefit.
It is recorded in Riyadh Al Saliheen, Hadith 1851, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
‘Allah is Pure and, therefore, accepts only that which is pure. Allah has commanded the believers as He has commanded His Messengers by saying: ‘O Messengers! Eat of the good things, and do good deeds.’ (23:51) And He said: ‘O you who believe (in the Oneness of Allah)! Eat of the lawful things that We have provided you….’
This powerful Hadith establishes a direct link between Allah’s divine nature and our daily actions. The statement, ‘Allah is Pure and… accepts only that which is pure,’ elevates the act of eating from a biological necessity to a spiritual discipline. It teaches that by choosing pure and Halal food, we are striving to reflect a divine attribute in our own lives, which is an act beloved by Allah.
