Parenting Perspective
When young people observe their peers becoming taller, maturing noticeably earlier, or appearing to be “ahead” in life’s journey, they may quietly begin to wonder why they are uniquely different. Some feel genuinely left behind, while others experience a burden from changes that arrived too soon. Helping your child sincerely understand that Allah Almighty’s timing for their growth is deliberate and entirely perfect can be a profound, spiritual way to transform feelings of comparison into a sense of deep, calm trust. It ultimately teaches them that every single change in body, mind, or life stage unfolds precisely when it is meant to.
Beginning with the Language of Trust
When your child expresses feelings of self doubt or natural impatience, you must avoid the immediate impulse to simply say, “Do not worry, you will get there soon enough.” Instead, you must root your constant reassurance in faith: “Allah knows precisely when your body and heart are ready for each new stage His timing is never too early or too late.”
- Divine Harmony: Remind them gently that everything in the majestic creation grows and operates by the precise will of Allah the sun rises at its appointed time, flowers bloom in their specific season, and rain falls at its measured hour. Use these powerful natural examples to clearly demonstrate that the same consistent Divine timing governs all human growth. This vital perspective helps them to view their individual journey as a beautiful, harmonious part of a grand, encompassing Divine design.
Emphasise That Growth Is Not Just Physical
Many children instinctively measure their progress and personal success through easily visible external factors such as height, changes in voice, or physical maturity. It is your duty to substantially broaden their view by teaching them that genuine growth also involves the disciplined development of patience, wisdom, and kindness. Say, “Some people grow rapidly on the outside, others grow quicker on the inside both types of growth are incredibly important to Allah.”
By consistently valuing moral and emotional maturity above mere physical appearance, your child will learn that physical changes are only one component of a much larger, more significant process. This profound spiritual truth reassures them that their unique pace is not a deficit, but simply a designed difference.
Use Stories from Nature and Life
Children often learn most effectively and deeply through vivid, relatable imagery. You can use analogies: “A strong apple tree and a delicate rosebush do not blossom at the same exact time, but both are beautiful and necessary in their own right.” These compelling examples make the concept of Divine timing visible, understandable, and deeply relatable.
You might even engage in reflective discussion together on how the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ received the major revelation at the perfect, opportune moment after a significant period of private reflection, and not before the Divinely set time. This illustrates clearly that even the greatest of all humans patiently waited for the perfect time predetermined by Allah Almighty.
Protect Them from a Culture of Comparison
Encourage your child to view the development of their peers simply as Allah’s plan for those individuals not as a fixed standard against which they must measure their own self. You can advise them, “Their personal path is specifically designed for them, and yours is uniquely designed for you. Allah is watching over both of your journeys with equal, perfect love.”
Actively make your home environment a sacred space where uniqueness is genuinely celebrated. Avoid comparing siblings or peers, even in casual jest. Instead, consistently highlight and praise effort, kindness, and sincerity qualities that visibly reflect growth of the heart, not just the body.
Guide Them to Gratitude for Their Stage
When your child expresses understandable impatience or frustration, gently invite them to reflect deeply on the numerous blessings of their current moment. Ask them, “What specifically can you sincerely thank Allah for in the unique way He has created you and is guiding you right now?” The consistent practice of gratitude immediately and effectively transforms frustration into inner peace.
Encourage the regular use of du’a as a practical, personal way of communicating with Allah about their internal feelings: “O Allah, please powerfully help me to trust the perfect way that You are thoughtfully growing me.” This personal, spiritual connection with Allah successfully builds both enduring emotional maturity and profound spiritual calm.
Spiritual Insight
The noble Quran and the authentic teachings of the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ consistently remind us that absolutely everything in creation, including the development of every human being, unfolds through Divine precision and intentionality. Nothing about our growth or development is random or accidental every change, heartbeat, and delay occurs precisely by the perfect decree of Allah Almighty.
The Perfect Measure of Divine Design
The Quran explicitly confirms that all aspects of creation, including human development, are established with a perfect, calculated measure.
Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Al Qamar (54), Verse 49:
‘Indeed, all things We created with a measure…’
This majestic verse teaches the profound truth that everything from the precise positioning of the stars in the night sky to the intricate stages of human life is created with exact balance and optimal timing. When you share this essential truth with your child, explain clearly that their individual body and their emotional capacity are also a part of this meticulously measured plan. Allah Almighty fully knows precisely what they need to experience and exactly when they are spiritually and physically ready for each step. There is genuinely no such thing as “too slow” or “too fast” in Divine wisdom.
The Wisdom of Gradual Growth
The prophetic tradition teaches the spiritual value of patience and avoiding unnecessary haste in life’s important matters.
It is recorded in Jami Tirmidhi, Hadith 2012, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
‘Be deliberate and you will reach what you seek, and beware of haste, for haste is from Satan.’
This important Hadith beautifully reminds us that rushing the natural stages of life often leads to spiritual restlessness, while sincere patience and reliance leads directly to fulfilment and peace. Teaching this to your child helps them truly see that waiting is not a harmful delay it is, in fact, a necessary preparation. Allah Almighty intentionally allows things to unfold slowly and deliberately so that we can fully appreciate, learn from the process, and grow with spiritual balance and depth.
When you successfully link your child’s unique personal growth to Allah’s deliberate timing, you are giving them something far stronger than simple reassurance you are giving them faith based peace. They will learn the comforting truth that their life is not late, it is not early, and it is certainly not incomplete; it is perfectly unfolding exactly as it should.
Over time, your calm and faith filled words will gradually and securely become their own inner voice. When they inevitably look at others and feel a temporary sense of being behind, they will remember the comforting truth, “Allah’s clock for me is perfect.” When they feel significant discomfort with certain changes, they will securely trust that He never places a burden on them before they are fully ready to manage it.
Through your patient guidance, your child will begin to see Divine timing not as a deep mystery to be anxiously questioned, but as a genuine mercy to be cherished a constant reminder that every single moment of their personal growth is seen, measured, and lovingly planned by Allah Almighty, who is entirely free from any mistakes in His perfect creation.
