Does Wise Compass help children build confidence in telling their own stories? 

Every child has a story to tell, but they often need a little bit of help to find the confidence to share it. Wise Compass acts as a scaffold for a child’s own storytelling. By providing rich, visual narratives and well-structured plots, we give children a framework they can use to build their own ideas. When they see how our characters navigate their worlds, they begin to see the patterns of how a story works. This makes the act of creating their own stories feel less intimidating and more like a natural extension of their play and reading time. 

Our full-page illustrations are particularly helpful for this. A child might look at a scene in Learning in the Garden and start to describe what else might be happening just out of view. This ‘reading between the lines’ is the first step toward independent storytelling. As they become familiar with our themes of responsibility and mercy, they start to weave these values into their own imaginative games.
