Can Wise Compass shift ‘why don’t I have that?’ into appreciation thinking?

The thought ‘why don’t I have that?’ is the beginning of envy and can lead to a very unhappy state of mind. Wise Compass aims to transform this line of thinking into ‘Alhamdulillah for what I have’ and ‘I am happy for my friend.’ As Muslim parents, we want our children to have generous hearts that are free from the bitterness of comparison. Our Islamic stories for kids show that every person has a different set of blessings from Allah Almighty and that our job is to be grateful for our own unique path.

Through values-based reading, we present scenarios where a character feels a sting of envy but chooses to focus on their own blessings instead. Our faith-friendly story platform highlights the social-emotional learning that happens when we practice appreciative thinking. In stories like Food Safari, children learn to see the diversity of gifts in the world as a sign of Allah Almighty’s wisdom. By following the supportive example of holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who taught us to look at those who have less to increase our gratitude, children are inspired to be appreciative. We want children to feel that their heart is a place of abundance. Wise Compass provides the language for children to shift their perspective and express genuine appreciation for their own life. By making appreciative thinking an attractive and rewarded habit, we help children build a character that is defined by its light and contentment. They learn that by letting go of comparison, they are inviting more Barakah and peace into their lives, following the guidance of the noble Quran and seeking the pleasure of Allah Almighty in all things.
