Can Wise Compass inspire compassion for those with less, without pity?
It is important for children to develop compassion for those facing difficulties, but we want to avoid feelings of pity that can lead to a sense of superiority. Wise Compass teaches children to see everyone as equals in dignity and creation. As Muslim parents, we want our children to feel a sense of solidarity and brotherly love, as taught in the noble Quran. Our Islamic stories for kids focus on the shared humanity of all people, encouraging children to offer help with humility and respect for the recipient’s honour.
Through values-based reading, we present scenarios where characters learn to give in a way that preserves the dignity of others. Our faith-friendly story platform highlights that those with less often have strengths and wisdom that we can learn from. In stories like Food Safari, children explore global systems and see how interconnected we all are, fostering a sense of mutual respect. By following the compassionate and humble character of holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who always treated the poor with the utmost dignity, children are inspired to be truly empathetic. We want children to understand that their own blessings are an Amanah from Allah Almighty to be shared, not a reason for pride. Wise Compass provides the social-emotional learning tools for children to connect with others on a heart level. By making compassion an attractive and rewarded choice, we help children build a character defined by its justice and mercy. They learn that by helping others, they are simply fulfilling a right and seeking the pleasure of Allah Almighty together.
