Parenting Perspective
When a child asks, ‘Can I still love Allah Almighty if I have questions?’, they are revealing both faith and fear. They are afraid that curiosity means disloyalty. But in truth, a heart that asks is a heart that cares. Questioning, when done with humility, is not the opposite of love; it is one of its purest signs. Your role as a parent is to help your child see that love for Allah Almighty can live peacefully beside honest wondering. The more they learn to ask with reverence, the more their questions become expressions of closeness, not distance.
Reassuring That Love Welcomes Questions
Start with calm reassurance: ‘Yes, my dear, you can love Allah Almighty deeply and still have questions about Him.’ Children need to hear that love is not broken by curiosity. Tell them that Allah Almighty Himself invites reflection; that He wants us to think about His creation, His mercy, and His commands.
You can say, ‘When you ask, it means your heart is alive and wants to understand Allah Almighty better. That is love, not doubt.’ This normalises questioning as an act of sincerity. It teaches that love is not blind; it is thoughtful.
Remind them that Allah Almighty knows the thoughts they hesitate to share. If He wanted silence, He would not have given them minds that wonder. He created curiosity to lead them back to Him.
Showing Love Deepens Through Understanding
Children often assume that perfect love means never questioning. Use a gentle comparison they can grasp: ‘When you love someone, you want to know more about them. Asking questions about Allah Almighty is just like that; it makes your love stronger.’
Encourage your child to see learning as a form of devotion. Tell them, ‘Each time you explore a question about faith, you are getting to know Allah Almighty more deeply.’
Show them how knowledge can increase affection. When they learn that Allah Almighty forgives again and again, or that He writes down even the smallest good deed, their questions will evolve into admiration. Help them feel awe through understanding, not guilt.
Distinguishing Respectful Curiosity from Arrogance
Explain that in Islam, how we ask matters as much as what we ask. You can say, ‘We can ask any question if we speak with respect and love.’
Illustrate this through the story of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who asked Allah Almighty to show him how He gives life to the dead. Allah Almighty did not rebuke him; He responded by revealing His power. This teaches that respectful questioning invites divine kindness.
Contrast that with those in the Noble Quran who asked mockingly or with arrogance. Help your child see that it was not the question that was wrong; it was the attitude behind it. This distinction gives them confidence to inquire while staying humble.
Modelling a Faith That Thinks and Loves
Your example shapes your child’s perception of what loving Allah Almighty looks like. If they see you engage faith with reflection and calm, they will mirror that balance. Let them hear you express wonder without fear: ‘SubhanAllah Almighty , I was thinking today about how perfect Allah Almighty ’s design is. It makes me love Him even more.’
When they ask something difficult, pause before answering. Take a breath, smile, and respond with warmth: ‘That is a beautiful question. Let us find what the Noble Quran says about it.’ The tone itself teaches that reflection and reverence belong together.
If you do not know an answer, say, ‘I do not know, but we can learn together.’ This humility models intellectual honesty, proof that love for Allah Almighty does not require pretending to know everything about Him.
Turning Questions into Worship
Show your child how curiosity can become an act of remembrance. When they wonder, guide them to turn the question into dua (supplication): ‘O Allah Almighty , help me understand this and grow closer to You.’ This simple habit turns intellectual effort into spiritual connection.
You can also introduce reflection through observation: ‘When you see something amazing in nature, say SubhanAllah Almighty . You have just turned your question into love.’
Over time, they will learn that asking about Allah Almighty ’s world is a form of remembering Him. Love and learning become inseparable, each strengthening the other.
Keeping Warmth at the Centre of Faith
Children remember tone more than explanations. Keep every discussion rooted in affection. If they sense love in your voice when you talk about Allah Almighty , they will associate Him with gentleness.
When they say, ‘I do not understand why Allah Almighty does something,’ respond with empathy: ‘That is all right; many adults feel that too. Allah Almighty still loves you for asking.’ Then add softly, ‘Every time you look for answers, you are walking closer to Him.’
Faith grows in warmth, not in fear. A parent’s tenderness becomes the bridge between curiosity and love.
Spiritual Insight
The Noble Quran consistently calls believers to think and remember in the same breath, proof that reflection and love coexist by design.
Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Al Imran (3), Verses 190-191:
‘Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding those who remember Allah Almighty while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], ‘Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You…’
These verses unite love and intellect: remembering Allah Almighty (zikr) and thinking (tafakkur) are presented as one continuous act. The more believers reflect, the more they praise.
It is recorded in Jami Tirmidhi, Hadith 2646, that holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
‘Whoever travels a path in search of knowledge, Allah Almighty will make easy for him a path to Paradise.’
Seeking to understand Allah Almighty is therefore not a distraction from faith; it is part of the journey toward it.
By showing your child that love and questioning are companions, you help them grow into believers who think deeply and feel deeply. They will learn that asking is not abandoning faith but embracing it more fully, and that every sincere question, when wrapped in reverence, brings them closer to Allah Almighty, the Most Loving, the All-Wise.
