Parenting Perspective
For a child, the concept of ‘changing the world’ can feel too vast and abstract to grasp. To make it real, we need to paint a vivid picture of the world before the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the beautiful transformation that occurred after his arrival. His message was not just a set of new beliefs; it was a divine light that revolutionised hearts, families, and entire societies. By focusing on tangible examples, we can help our children see the profound and lasting impact of his mission.
From Darkness to Light: Tangible Social Changes
The most effective way to illustrate his impact is through specific, relatable changes. These stories show that his teachings were not theoretical ideals but practical solutions to real-world problems.
Focus on the vulnerable members of society whose lives were transformed. Explain how, in an era where orphans were often cheated out of their inheritance and mistreated, his message commanded that they be protected and honoured. Describe how he elevated the status of women, granting them rights to inheritance, education, and dignified treatment at a time when they were often viewed as property. Even his teachings on compassion extended to animals, forbidding cruelty and encouraging kindness to all of Allah’s creation. These are tangible social changes that a child can easily understand and appreciate as signs of a better, kinder world.
The Unity of a Global Family
Another powerful way to show his impact is through the visible unity of the Muslim Ummah today. This global connection is a direct result of the message he delivered over 1,400 years ago.
Use visuals and real-world examples to bring this to life. Show your child a map of the world and point out the many different countries where Muslims live. Explain that despite their different languages, cultures, and appearances, they are all connected as part of a global family of faith. Billions of people greet each other with the same words of peace (As-salamu ‘alaykum), they all turn to face the same Qiblah in prayer, and they all recite the same noble Quran. This incredible unity, transcending all worldly divisions, is one of the most powerful proofs of how his message changed the world.
Spiritual Insight
The mission of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was, by divine decree, a universal one. Unlike previous prophets who were sent to a specific tribe or nation, he was sent as the final messenger to all of humanity, for all time. His message was not intended to be a localised reform but a global transformation, a mercy from Allah meant to reach every corner of the earth and illuminate every human heart.
Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Saba (34), Verse 28:
‘And We have not sent you except comprehensively to mankind as a bringer of good tidings and a warner, but most of the people do not know…’
This verse explicitly confirms the universal nature of the Prophet’s ﷺ mission. It establishes that he was sent to all people, without exception. His role as a ‘bringer of good tidings’ and a ‘warner’ was a mercy intended for every individual, regardless of their background. This divine declaration elevates his impact beyond a historical achievement to a continuous spiritual reality.
It is recorded in Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 438, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
‘Every Prophet was sent to his nation exclusively, but I was sent to all mankind.’
This statement from the Prophet ﷺ himself clarifies the unique and comprehensive scope of his prophethood. It helps children understand that Islam is not a religion for one group of people, but a universal truth meant to guide all of humanity. Teaching this fosters a sense of awe at the vastness of Allah’s plan and a deep gratitude for being part of an Ummah whose Prophet was sent as a mercy to every human heart, everywhere.
