Parenting Perspective
Children often enjoy helping others but may not fully realise how deeply Allah Almighty values these acts. When parents connect every gesture of kindness to divine reward, they effectively transform small gestures into lifelong habits of compassion. Helping others is not just good behaviour; it is a sacred form of worship that actively invites blessings, peace, and Barakah (blessing/increase) into one’s life. The aim is to show children that every act of support lifting something for a friend, sharing lunch, or comforting someone is noticed by Allah and significantly multiplied in reward.
Link Small Kindness to Divine Love
Begin by helping your child see that no action is too small for Allah’s attention and love. Tell them, “Even when you simply pass a smile or share a toy, Allah sees it and loves it, and records it for you.” Use real, immediate examples from their daily life, like holding the door for someone or helping a sibling, to make the idea tangible.
Explain that Allah’s mercy flows most generously to those who actively ease the burden of others. You can use the direct reminder: “When you make life easier for someone else, Allah promises to make life easier for you.” This simple connection builds motivation rooted in faith, not in praise or reward from people.
Keep Reminders Visual and Heartfelt
Children strongly respond to what they can see and touch. Create a small ‘Barakah Jar’ at home. Every time a family member helps someone outside the home or performs an act of kindness, they can place a small note or a bead inside. At the end of the week, empty the jar and say together, “These humble acts earned us Allah’s blessings and Barakah this week.” The visual link between good deeds and Divine reward strengthens their sense of spiritual purpose.
You can also weave short, faith-based reminders into everyday speech, such as “Let us try to earn Allah’s blessings today by helping someone,” or “Remember, Allah loves those who make others genuinely smile.” Repetition delivered with warmth turns these phrases into anchors of positive behaviour.
Tell Stories That Awaken Compassion
Share short, vivid stories of the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ helping others through his actions, such as feeding the poor, comforting orphans, and caring for neighbours. Emphasise his evident joy in serving, not merely his duty. When children see that even the Prophet ﷺ found deep personal happiness in helping, they naturally associate goodness with spiritual honour.
Encourage reflection after each act of help by simply asking, “How do you think Allah feels about the kind thing you just did?” Reflection turns physical action into spiritual awareness, building humility and joy together.
Spiritual Insight
Helping others is one of the clearest and most direct ways to earn Allah Almighty’s abundant blessings. Every act of kindness done sincerely, even if completely unnoticed by people, is seen and rewarded by Him many times over.
Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Al Hadid (57), Verses 18:
‘Indeed, the men who give charity and the women who give charity and [they who] have loaned Allah a goodly loan, it will be multiplied for them, and they will have a noble reward…’
This verse shows powerfully that Allah actively multiplies the reward of every good act. Parents can explain, “Whenever you help someone, it is like giving a beautiful gift to Allah, and He gives you something even better in return.” This helps children see helping not as losing energy or time, but as purposefully planting seeds of lasting blessing.
Kindness returns as mercy:
It is recorded in Jamiah Tirmidhi, Hadith 1930, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
‘Whoever relieves a believer’s distress of the distressful aspects of this world, Allah will rescue him from a difficulty of the difficulties of the Hereafter.’
This Hadith reminds children that kindness is never wasted; it returns to them as Divine mercy when they need it most in this life and the next.
Together, the verse and Hadith teach that every sincere act of help actively draws Allah’s favour and love closer. Parents can remind their children, “Each time you make someone’s day easier, Allah is preparing ease and comfort for you too.” When this becomes a household belief, helping others no longer feels like effort; it becomes a joyful and fulfilling way to earn the love, peace, and abundant blessings of Allah Almighty every single day.
