Parenting Perspective
Children often face physical, emotional, and developmental changes that can feel unsettling. They may wonder why their body, habits, or abilities keep shifting. If parents do not address these changes with clarity and reassurance, children may think of them as random or even frightening. The best way to give comfort is to show that every change is guided by Allah Almighty’s wisdom and care.
Affirming Purposeful Guidance
Begin by naming changes as part of a loving process rather than accidents. These small affirmations frame change as purposeful and good.
For example, when a child grows taller, say, ‘Allah is helping your body become stronger.’
When they face new emotions, you might remind them, ‘Allah is teaching you how to understand your heart.’
Using Concrete Examples
Use everyday examples to make the point concrete. Explain that just like the natural world follows Allah’s guidance, their body and mind are also being guided at every stage. This makes change feel natural and divinely supported, rather than confusing.
Show them how the moon changes shapes or how plants grow from seeds into flowers.
Children also need stories of reassurance. Share moments from your own life when changes felt difficult but later made sense, emphasising that Allah always provided help along the way.
Modelling Trust and Calmness
Most importantly, model calmness during their changes. If parents panic about their child’s development, the child may think change is something to fear.
By showing trust and gratitude, parents communicate that Allah’s guidance is constant and reliable.
Spiritual Insight
Islam teaches that Allah Almighty is Al Hadi, the Ultimate Guide, who directs every stage of life. Children need to learn that growth is not random but part of His divine wisdom and mercy.
The Straight Path of Development
Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah An Nur (24), Verses 46:
‘Indeed, We have sent down clear verses, and Allah guides whom He wills to a straight path…’
Parents can use this verse to explain that guidance is not only about faith but also about how Allah steers their lives, bodies, and hearts through every phase. Just as the Quran provides light for the soul, Allah’s wisdom guides the unfolding of their development.
Growth is a Divine Gift
It is recorded in Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith 220, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
‘When Allah wills good for someone, He grants him understanding of the religion.’
This Hadith shows that growth is not just physical but also spiritual, and that Allah Himself grants the ability to understand, learn, and develop. Parents can share this with children to reassure them that each change, whether in body, mind, or spirit, is part of Allah’s plan to bring them closer to goodness.
When children understand that every shift is divinely guided, they find peace instead of confusion. They learn to view growth as a mercy and trust Allah’s wisdom at every step.
