What reassurance comes when children are reminded Allah Almighty rewards patience?

Parenting Perspective

Patience is not a natural state for most children; they tend to live in moments of immediate urgency wanting the good grade today, the friendship to be fixed instantly, the difficult problem to be solved overnight. When a parent gently reminds them that patience is not a weakness but a profound strength, they help to shift the child’s internal narrative from one of frustration to one of hope. This reminder can serve as a vital anchor against the storm of waiting.

Framing Patience as a Form of Power

Children often mistake the act of waiting for a sign of helplessness. A parent’s voice can help to reframe it.

‘Being patient does not mean you are doing nothing. It means you are holding yourself with strength and dignity while Allah Almighty writes what is best for you’.

This language teaches a child that patience is an active state it is a combination of self-control, calmness, and perseverance in their small, daily actions. A parent can:

  • Normalise waiting: ‘It is okay that this is not solved right away. This is often how real growth happens’.
  • Celebrate patience: Notice when your child handles a delay or a disappointment calmly and say, ‘I am so proud of how you held yourself together just then’.
  • Make patience visible: Point out how seeds take many months to grow into strong plants, yet none of their quiet, underground effort is ever wasted.

Such reminders can help to soften a child’s restlessness and nurture a sense of trust that their struggles have a meaning that extends beyond the present moment.

Offering Comfort During Long Journeys

Meaningful progress in academics, healing from peer conflicts, or adapting to a new environment all demand time and patience. When a parent links these long journeys to the virtue of patience, a child can feel less alone in the waiting. They begin to see their silence, their endurance, and their steady effort not as signs of being overlooked, but as part of something that is honoured and valued.

Spiritual Insight

The noble Quran and the teachings of holy Prophet ﷺ repeatedly elevate patience (sabr) as a defining quality of a true believer. This is a powerful source of reassurance for a child who is struggling with the difficulties of waiting.

Allah Almighty states in noble Quran at Surah Al Zumar (39), Verse 10:

‘“…Indeed, those people that were resilient shall be rewarded with what is their due, without any limitations”.’

This verse carries an immense reassurance for a child. It teaches that every moment they hold themselves back from despair, and every tear they quietly endure, is seen by Allah Almighty and is promised a reward that is beyond measure. It assures them that their patience is never invisible; it is, in fact, treasured by their Lord.

It is recorded in Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 1469, that holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

‘Whoever remains patient, Allah Almighty will make him patient. Nobody can be given a blessing better and greater than patience.’

Here, patience is described not just as an action, but as a gift from Allah Almighty the very best of His blessings. When a parent shares this Hadith with their child, they are planting the seeds of confidence, teaching them that their period of waiting is not an empty one, but a path towards an immense reward and a deep inner strength.
