How do I explain that Allah Almighty sees everything?

Parenting Perspective

Explain with Simple Examples

Explaining to your child that Allah Almighty sees everything is a fundamental teaching in Islam that helps to instil a sense of accountability and mindfulness. You can start by gently explaining that Allah is always aware of what is happening, whether it is in private or in public. You might say, ‘Allah sees everything we do, even when no one else is watching. He knows what is in our hearts and what we choose to do.’

Use simple examples that your child can relate to. For example, if your child is tempted to lie or to cheat, you could say, ‘Even if no one else knows, Allah knows the truth. He sees everything and is always aware of our actions.’ This reinforces the concept that Allah’s presence is all-encompassing, which helps your child to realise the importance of making choices based on what pleases Allah, rather than seeking approval from others.

A Source of Comfort, Not Fear

Teach your child that Allah’s awareness is a source of comfort and guidance, not something to be feared in a negative way. You can explain that Allah sees everything with love and mercy, and that while He wants us to choose good actions, He also understands when we make mistakes and gives us opportunities to repent and improve. For example, ‘When you make a mistake, Allah sees your effort to do better. He is always there to help you.’ Praise your child when they demonstrate good behaviour in situations where no one is watching.

Spiritual Insight

In Islam, the concept of Allah’s all-seeing nature is emphasised as part of His perfect knowledge. Allah Almighty says in the noble Quran at Surah Al Mujadilah (58), Verse 7:

‘Have you not seen that Allah (Almighty) knows what ever is (in existence) in the layers of trans-universal existence and the Earth; there can never be a secret consultation between three people, except that He (Allah Almighty) shall be the fourth in them….’

This verse highlights Allah’s all-encompassing knowledge and His awareness of everything in existence, encouraging us to always act with sincerity and responsibility.

The holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also taught us about Allah’s awareness of our actions. It is recorded in Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2564c, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

‘Allah does not look at your appearances or wealth, but He looks at your hearts and actions.’

This Hadith underscores the importance of having good intentions and performing righteous deeds, knowing that Allah is fully aware of our every action. By teaching your child that Allah sees everything, you are helping them to internalise the value of acting in ways that are pleasing to Allah, even when no one else is watching.
