Jameela the Bee Makes Honey For Me

Bees are easy to overlook. They hum past us in the garden, and most of us wave them away without a second thought. Yet Allah Almighty chose the bee as the namesake of an entire chapter of the noble Quran, Surah An Nahl (The Bee), as a sign for those who reflect. The Quranic Root of the Story

Allah Almighty tells us in the noble Quran, at Surah An Nahl (16), Verses 68-69:  

وَأَوْحَىٰ رَبُّكَ إِلَى النَّحْلِ أَنِ اتَّخِذِي مِنَ الْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا وَمِنَ الشَّجَرِ وَمِمَّا يَعْرِشُونَ ﴿٦٨﴾ ثُمَّ كُلِي مِن كُلِّ الثَّمَرَاتِ فَاسْلُكِي سُبُلَ رَبِّكِ ذُلُلًا ۚ يَخْرُجُ مِن بُطُونِهَا شَرَابٌ مُّخْتَلِفٌ أَلْوَانُهُ فِيهِ شِفَاءٌ لِّلنَّاسِ ۗ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ ﴿٦٩﴾

Wa awhaa Rabbuka ilan-nahli anit-takhidhee minal-jibaali buyootanw-wa minash-shajari wa mimmaa ya'rishoon, thumma kulee min kullith-thamaraati fasluki subula Rabbiki dhululaa, yakhruju mim-butoonihaa sharaabum-mukhtalifun alwaanuhoo feehi shifaa'ul-linnaas, inna fee dhaalika la-Aayatal-liqawminy-yatafakkaroon.

Allah Almighty inspired the bee to make its home among the mountains, the trees, and the structures people build and to feed from every kind of fruit, moving humbly along the paths its Lord has laid out for it. From within it comes a drink of varying colours, in which there is healing for people — truly, in this is a sign for those who reflect. This is the very sentiment Jameela the Bee is built around: a small creature obeying a design she did not choose, and in doing so, becoming a means of benefit for the whole of creation.
