How can a family turn a favourite nasheed video into a creative project, like a skit or discussion?

Parenting Perspective

Turning a beloved nasheed into a creative project is a wonderful way to transform passive screen time into active, meaningful engagement. It helps children internalise the nasheed’s message through teamwork, communication, and fun.

Watch and Reflect Together

Begin by simply enjoying the nasheed as a family. Afterwards, open a gentle discussion to explore its meaning. You can ask questions like, ‘What feelings did that song bring up for you?’ or ‘Which line was your favourite, and why?’ This creates an atmosphere of shared spiritual reflection

Transform the Lyrics into a Creative Skit

Invite your family to bring the nasheed’s message to life. If the song is about gratitude, you could create a short skit with scenes of being thankful. Assigning roles like director, actor, or prop designer gives everyone a sense of ownership and creative purpose. Even the youngest children can contribute by drawing pictures or choosing a costume.

Host a Family Discussion

After the creative part of the project, deepen the learning with a brief follow-up discussion. You can ask, ‘What is the most important lesson this nasheed teaches us?’ or ‘How can we practise this message in our family this week?’ This helps to connect the inspirational message to real-life actions

Celebrate and Share Your Creation

Acknowledge every family member’s contribution and celebrate your collective effort. You could record the final performance to watch back together or even share it with grandparents. This act of celebrating your shared creativity reinforces pride in your family’s values and strengthens your bond.

By making spiritual learning an interactive and joyful experience, you can help your children absorb and love the beautiful lessons of their faith.

Spiritual Insight

Islam encourages creativity and reflection as powerful tools for spiritual growth. Using wholesome art like nasheeds to inspire family projects is a beautiful way to nurture faith.

Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Al Ankaboot (29), Verse 69:

‘ And those people that endeavour (to please) Us (Allah Almighty); so, We (Allah Almighty) shall indeed, guide them (to those pathways) that lead to Us; and indeed, Allah (Almighty) is with those who are benevolent (in their actions).’

This verse reminds us that when we make a sincere effort or “strive” to engage with our faith in positive and creative ways, Allah promises to guide us. A family project centred on a nasheed is a form of this beautiful striving.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that our speech should always have a good purpose.

It is recorded in Riyadh Al Saliheen, 1511, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

Let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day either speak good or keep silent.‘

Creating a skit or holding a discussion based on a nasheed is a perfect example of “speaking good.” It is using our time and our voices to bring Islamic values to life in a way that is constructive, joyful, and pleasing to Allah.
