What if my toddler refuses to eat vegetables?

Parenting Perspective

If a child resists vegetables, keep presenting them without coercion. It may take several exposures – most often 10 to 15 times – before a child will even try a new food. Present vegetables in various forms (steamed, roasted, grated, blended) and add them to foods children already know, such as pasta or rice. Share meals together as a family and show enjoyment of vegetables. Don’t force or bribe, as it can instil long-term aversions. Maintain a peaceful and pleasant atmosphere at mealtime. With time, the combination of familiarity and repetition will encourage acceptance and a liking for vegetables as a routine part of meals.

Spiritual Insight

Allah Almighty says in the noble Quran at Surah Al Baqarah (2), Verse 2: ‘This is a Book (Quran) in which there cannot be any doubt; guidance for those who seek piety.’ It is recorded in Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 2593, that holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: ‘Allah Almighty is Gentle and loves gentleness in all things.’ These teachings support patience and gentleness, even when guiding children towards healthy choices.
