What are signs of a nutrient deficiency in adolescents?

Parenting Perspective

It requires attention and proactive attention to detect symptoms of nutrient deficiency in teenagers. The symptoms are tiredness, pale complexion, brittle nails, frequent illness, poor concentration, loss of hair, and delayed growth. Tiredness and weakness can be caused by iron deficiency; bone pain or delayed growth can be caused by vitamin D or calcium deficiency. The Vitamin deficiencies can impact mood, attention, and energy. Should such symptoms occur, visit a health care practitioner for testing and advice. Educate your teenager that consuming a variety of Tayyib (pure, wholesome) foods is part of their Islamic responsibility to maintain the body. Proper Halal nutrition aids physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Spiritual Insight

Allah Almighty says in the noble Quran at Surah Al Baqarah (2), Verse 168: ‘O mankind! Consume from the Earth that which is lawful and pure (qualitative); and do not follow the footsteps of Satan…’It is recorded in Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 5199, that holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: ‘Your body has a right over you, your eyes have a right over you, and your wife has a right over you.’ It is recorded in Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2204, that holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: ‘There is a remedy for every malady, and when the remedy is applied to the disease it is cured with the permission of Allah, the Exalted and Glorious.’ These teachings remind us of that monitoring health and correcting deficiencies is part of the trust and care Muslims must uphold over their bodies.
