What are healthy meal prep ideas for busy teens?

Parenting Perspective

It requires simple planning and equilibrium to provide healthy meals for active teenagers. Emphasize simple, Halal, grab-and-go foods that contain protein, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. Overnight oats with nuts and dates, wraps with grilled chicken or chickpeas, rice bowls with lentils and vegetables, or wholemeal pasta with tomato sauce are some examples. Have pre-cut fruits and boiled eggs available in the fridge. Smoothies made from milk, banana, and flaxseed are also great. Engage teens in meal selection and preparation so that they become independent and aware. Let them remember that cooking and consuming healthy food is a type of worship when it is done with the proper intention.

Spiritual Insight

Allah Almighty says in the noble Quran at Surah Al Baqarah (2), Verse 172: ‘O you who are believers, consume from amongst that which is purified, which We (Allah Almighty) have provided for you; and be grateful to Allah (Almighty)…’ It is recorded in Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2734a, that holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: ‘Indeed, Allah Almighty is pleased with His servant who, when he eats food or drinks a drink, praises Him for it.’ It is recorded in Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1015, that holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: ‘Allah Almighty is pure and accepts only that which is pure.’ These teachings remind us that even preparing meals can be an act of Iman when done with intention, balance, and gratitude.
