How to Reset Your Energy When You Wake Up Tired

Parenting Perspective

Beginning the day with emotional fatigue is a familiar reality for many parents, especially those in the thick of raising young children. You wake, not to peace, but to duty. Even before your feet touch the floor, the mental list has already begun. Resetting your energy, then, is not a luxury. It is a necessary act of preservation.

Shift Your Goal to ‘Feeling Anchored’

Start by shifting the goal from ‘feeling energised’ to ‘feeling anchored.’ You may not be able to eliminate exhaustion, but you can start the day from a place of grounded intention rather than reaction. This begins with carving a margin between waking and doing. Even two minutes of breath work, stillness, or a short, whispered prayer, before checking messages or speaking can help reset your internal rhythm.

Consider Your Morning Inputs

Next, consider your morning inputs. Many parents pour out before pouring in. Try inserting a practice that is just for you even if brief. This could be reciting a short Dhikr, listening to Qur’an, or even simply opening the window and feeling the air. These actions remind your nervous system that the day belongs to Allah first, not just to demands.

Narrate Your Limits

Lastly, narrate your limits with honesty and gentleness. Let your child hear phrases like, ‘I need a moment to breathe,’ or ‘Let us begin slowly.’ You are not only resetting yourself, you are modelling self-regulation for your child. That quiet calibration, done consistently, becomes a form of invisible scaffolding for them too.

Spiritual Insight

Islam’s teachings reveal that the Quran is a holy book of guidance. The noble Quran offers a deeply comforting reminder of where true rest begins.

A Reminder That Faith is Not a Burden

Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Taaha (20), verses 2:

‘We have not sent down to you the noble Quran to cause you distress (by the non-conformity of it by the people).’

This divine address affirms that the foundation of our faith is not burden, but relief. When your day begins with overwhelm, anchoring in divine remembrance helps soften the emotional noise and resets your purpose.

The Prophetic Model: Barakah is in Sincerity

It is recorded in Riyad as-Salihin that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

The two rak’ahs before the dawn (Fajr) prayer are better than this world and all it contains.

[Riyad as-Salihin, 8:112]

This powerful hadith reminds us that barakah is not found in doing more, but in doing with sincerity. A few quiet moments of connection before Fajr can fill your internal reserves in a way that no checklist can match.

Your tiredness is real. But so is your access to divine replenishment. Begin your day not with urgency, but with presence. That is not a delay in productivity; it is the protection of your soul.
