How does emotional bonding look different with introverted versus extroverted children?

Parenting Perspective

Bonding with an Introverted Child

Quieter, deeper connections, like reading aloud together, having in-depth conversations one-on-one, or spending quiet time side by side, help introverted children connect.

Bonding with an Extroverted Child

Children who are extroverts frequently bond through play, movement, and social interactions.

The Core Principle

Get to know each child where they are and as who they are. Do not ignore the extrovert’s demand for expressive attention or force introverts into loud social bonding. Bonding respects your child for who they are, not for what you wish them to be.

Spiritual Insight

Islam values individual differences. Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Al Hujuraat (49), Verse 13:

O mankind, indeed, We (Allah Almighty) have created you all from one man and one woman; and placed you amongst various nations and tribes for your introduction to each other… ‘

The holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ treated each companion uniquely, acknowledging their personalities and temperaments. It is recorded in Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith 4293, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

Allah Almighty has one hundred (degrees of) mercy, of which He has shared one between all of creation, by virtue of which you show mercy and compassion towards one another…

When emotional bonding reflects this prophetic awareness of diversity, it works best.
