How did Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ encourage children to learn?

Parenting Perspective

The example of Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ offers a compassionate and effective model of education. He nurtured learning through personal connection, kindness and presence. He called each child by name and answered their questions with sincerity. He used simple stories, metaphors and symbolic tasks to teach values gently. Rather than relying on fear or pressure, he cultivated curiosity, confidence and trust. This highlights that emotional safety and respectful dialogue are the most fertile ground for learning. When a child feels valued, knowledge follows, carried by affection and mutual respect.

Spiritual Insight

Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Al Ahzab, Verse 21: ‘Indeed, there is in the Messenger of Allah an excellent example for anyone who hopes in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah often.’ This verse holds up the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as a complete role model, including for nurturing the young.
It is recorded in Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 6130, that holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ allowed children to approach him freely during gatherings and permitted them to ride on his back during Salah. These actions were not only compassionate but intentional teaching strategies. These moments of inclusion showed children that they belonged and that their presence mattered. By doing so, the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ linked learning to love, respect and a sense of spiritual community. His example remains a timeless guide for parents seeking to nurture both mind and heart in their children.
