How can shared daily rituals like meals or walks help me bond with my child?

Parenting Perspective

Rituals offer consistency, rhythm, and emotional bonding. Children can bond without having to perform during scheduled times like meals, walks, or bedtime routines. Your youngster learns that ‘you are part of something safe and steady’ from these repeated actions. Eye contact is natural, talks tend to flow more easily, and distractions are lessened when eating or taking a walk. Eventually, these habits turn into emotional pillars, times they connect with safety, love, and care.

Spiritual Insight

Islam promotes coherence and unity in day-to-day activities. Even sharing meals is a way to foster community and reward. Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Al Noor (24), Verse 61: ‘… there is no blame if you choose to eat collectively or separately…’ It is recorded in Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith 3287, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: ‘Eat together and do not eat separately, for the blessing is in being together.’ You can incorporate Barakah into your family life and enhance emotional bonds by transforming everyday activities into acts of love and faith.
