How can family rituals like walks or meals become moments of real emotional bonding?

Parenting Perspective

Rituals become emotional safe spaces when they are shared and predictable. A daily dinner or walk that is conducted without screens and with eye contact provides a pressure-free environment for connection. Ask open-ended inquiries, express your own opinions, and allow quiet to be comfortable during these times. To make the time more than merely regular, add a meaningful element, such as a joint Dua before meals or an expression of thanks after.

Spiritual Insight

Islam honours recurring deeds having profound spiritual meaning. Allah Almighty states in the noble Quran at Surah Al Baqarah (2), Verse 286: ‘Allah (Almighty) does not place any burden on any human being except that which is within his capacity…’ Even small rituals can carry Barakah. It is recorded in Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith 3287, that the holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: ‘Eat together and do not eat separately, for the blessing is in being together.’ Rituals become acts of adoration and love when they are made deliberately.
